You will then have an acclimatizing walk to Nagarjuna Hill in Dingboche. In addition, you will have the chance to explore the oldest monasteries in Pangboche and Tengboche, where you can observe the tranquil lives of the monks, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Thus the experiences you gain in our Everest base Camp trek 15 Days deserve to be recorded among the most impressive travel experiences you ever have.
Our Everest Base Camp 15-day trek begins in the city of Kathmandu, which has often been described as an open-air art museum. We then take a flight to the mountain village of Lukla and start to walk through the stunning Himalayan landscape in the Everest region.
We hike through Namche, Phortse, Dinboche, and Lobuche gradually marching our steps towards Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Not repeating the familiar path, we will walk around via Pheriche thus descending to Tengboche, Pangboche, Namche, and Lukla.
Namaste! Tashi Delek! Welcome to the land of Mother Mountain! As you exit the terminal of TIA, our team with a warm smile will greet you and drive you to the hotel in the tourist center of the city.
Please settle in your room and rest. Depending on your arrival time, you may have free time to walk around the city, visit its landmarks, and buy the missing equipment.
In the evening, all the group members will meet our guide in the hotel who will provide a short briefing about our upcoming Everest Base Camp trek of 15 Days. You can then taste the legendary Nepali momo for dinner.
In the morning, a short but breathtaking flight over Kanchenjunga and Everest awaits us to the village of Lukla. Be prepared for the stunning view of Mount Kongde Ri (6187 m) as soon as you exit from the plane and set foot at the legendary Tenzing Hillary airport.
A heartwarming smile from our local team will welcome us. We will then give our things to our team and enjoy some breakfast in the village. Then we will commence our hiking adventure to Phakding. The first day of our trek will be pretty easy, mostly downhill and remarkable.
Marching alongside the white waters of Dudh Koshi River, we will reach the exit of Lukla town. Here, our guide will obtain the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit and Sagarmatha National Park permit for us.
The trail then advances through the charming towns of Chheplung, Chaurikharka, and Thadokoshi. Thadokoshi is an excellent viewpoint to marvel at the beautiful view of Kusum Kangaru Himal (6367m).
We will then climb down to reach Ghat observing the sparkling peak of Khumbila (5761 m). Shortly, we will reach our first overnight destination in the Khumbu region- Phakding located at the tributary of Dudh Koshi River.
Attention
If the direct domestic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu is diverted to the Ramechhap/Manthali Airport, then we will drive for 4 hours in private transport probably around midnight to Ramechhap. Then we will fly to Lukla, the flight diversion generally occurs in spring and autumn months.
Resuming our walk from Phakding, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River once again. En route, we will be able to witness the breathtaking glimpse of Thamserku Peak at 6609 m. The trail then passes through the dense pine forest leading us to Benkar village. Then it advances to Monjo surrounded on all sides by the Himalayan mountains. Sagarmatha National Park begins from here.
Next, the path climbs to Jorsalle- a beautiful spot to eat our lunch. Then, marching through the dense rhododendron jungles for about 30 to 40 minutes, we will come across the iconic Hilary Suspension bridge that offers the incredible vista of Taboche Himal (6495 m) sacred to locals.
After overcoming the long metal bridge, we will walk for another 60 minutes to reach 3140 m high Topdanda aka Everest View Point. Look forward toward Lhotse, Everest Nuptse, and many other snowy peaks.
We will then ascend the trail to arrive at Namche Bazaar- the capital of the mountains. Here, we will settle in the cozy lodge for two nights straight.
We have our first rest day which allows our bodies to get used to the altitude. After breakfast, we will go on an acclimatization hike and climb to a height of 3880 m to reach the famous Everest View Hotel- known in the world as the highest-positioned deluxe hotel. En route, we will be able to observe the beautiful panorama of Pachermo Peak, Kongde Ri, Tangerito Peak, Khangtega, Samdur Peak, and many others.
We will then drink coffee on the terrace of the hotel which acts like a natural amphitheater of magnanimous Himalayas including Everest, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Taboche, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Cholatse.
It’s time to descend and return to our lodge at Namche.
After a day’s rest at Namche, we will set off on our journey to reach Phortse Village. Hiking again alongside the marvelous Dudh Koshi River, we will arrive at Sanasa from where the trail ascends sharply for about 1.40 hours leading us to the beautiful ridge of Mongla elevated at 3973 m.
It is the best vantage point that offers us impressive views of Taboche, Cholatse, and the vast expanse of Khumbu Valley. After eating lunch here, we will walk down for about 35 minutes to arrive at Phortse Thanga. Walking forward, we will encounter the long metal bridge over the beautiful Dudh Koshi River.
Crossing the bridge, the trail will then ascend for 2 more hours leading us finally to Phortse where we will settle for the night and tasty dinner.
We will exit the Phortse village after breakfast and then take on the trail that will climb sharply through the dense rhododendron jungle for about 3 hours. We are now at Upper Pangboche- a unique Sherpa settlement where the 400-year-old ancient monastery awaits our visit. Upon request, we may even see the mysterious Yeti Scalp.
From the monastery, the trail again climbs towards Shomare – a wonderful spot to eat our lunch with Everest, Ama Dablam and Nuptse in the background.
We are now at the Imja Khola Valley. The path although ascending now becomes easy till we reach Dingboche.
In order to better adapt to the ever-increasing altitude, we will dedicate this day to acclimatization in the surroundings of Dingboche. After breakfast, we will climb the path towards the ridge and slowly try to reach the 5083 m high Nangkartshang peak aka Nagarjung Viewpoint in about 3 hours.
The incredible mountain panorama of Baruntse, Makalu, Chopola, Island Peak, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Ambigetshen, Taboche, Khankaru, Cholatse, Nirukhang, Lobuche Peak, and Amphu Laptse awaits us at the top of the peak.
After adding some photos to our album, we will now head down to our Lodge in Dingboche. We may take a short detour of Nangkartshang monastery along the route.
Today a short scenic hike awaits us that opens up amazing views of Mount Pumori (7161m) and at the end of the day we will reach the edges of the famous Kumbu Glacier. But first, we will depart from Dingboche and follow the trail that climbs a stony path for a while. Eventually, we will arrive at Dughla or Thukla – a perfect spot to stop for our lunch.
The village offers us the most amazing views of Cholatse (6335 m) and Taboche (6367 m). After lunch, a sharp climb awaits us leading us to Thukla Pass elevated at 4830 m. The vast prayer flags decorate the site and act as a memorial for those who suffered their untimely demise when embarking toward Everest.
They certainly deserve our prayers too. The Pass is also known for bestowing the unbelievable scenery of Lobuche, Ama Dablam, and Lobuche Base Camp.
The trail then advances through the thin forest, alpine meadows, and glacial terrain taking us to Lobuche. After resting, we can walk along the moraine of the Khumbu glacier and admire the glacier itself.
This day will require a lot of strength. At first, we will climb the morainic edges of the Khumbu glacier to the Gorakshep area (5180 m). En route, we will be able to witness Nuptse, Everest, Pumori, Mahalangur, Khumbutse, Lingtren, Everest, and Changri Glacier.
Then the icy hard rocky trail climbs up for a while leading us to Lobuche Pass or Thangma Riju. The pass is an excellent spot to discover the all-around view of the huge Himalayas.
Next, we will overcome a vertical climb along the Changri Glacier. Along the way, for the very first time, we can glance at Kala Patthar Peak. We have arrived at Gorakshep, a desert like arid zone which is the final settlement in the Khumbu region. We will rest in its lodge for a while, keep our backpacks, and eat our lunch.
Then, we will continue our trek to the Everest base camp (5364 m). We will cross small streams, and overcome the glacial terrain. Then our trail will climb sharply towards the ridge that leads us to the legendary camp at the foot of the largest Himalayas of the planet.
Although Everest will not be visible from the camp, we can still wonder in the awe-inspiring views of Khumbu Glacier, Pumori, Khumbutse, Nuptse, Lhotse, and many more. We will also be the fortunate ones to meet the climbers waiting for their ascent to the world’s highest peak.
We will now return to our lodge in Gorakshep and sleep early as the long day and early wake await us tomorrow.
Today, the culmination of our Everest Base Camp Trek 15 Days trip awaits us – the climb to Kala Patthar. We will start the hike in the dark so that we can enjoy the beautiful sunrise on the roof of the world – Everest.
But first, the glacial and rocky trail awaits our climb. Along the ascension to the Peak, we will be able to see the majestic peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse.
The climb will take around 2 to 3 hours depending on our strength and pace. However, we will be on time to witness the priceless sunrise over Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, Lobuche, Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse, and many others.
Adding the memory for our life, we will now descend to our lodge at Gorakshep for a hearty meal. Then after packing our backpacks, we will leave for Lobuche where we can once again enjoy the comfort of a cozy room.
We will continue our descent to Deboche today. In the middle of the day, we will join the same road that we have traveled before. But despite this, the views will look quite different on the way down.
First, we will follow the trail along the Khumbu Glacier and go down to Thukla and Pheriche. The path will continuously descends to Shomare where we can stop for some short break for lunch. Then, following the Imja Khola, we will steadily walk down till we reach the edge of the Imja Khola Valley. Here we will come across a bridge which we will ofcourse cross.
Then we will slowly ascend till we arrive at Deboche Village for a comfortable night and tasty dinner.
We will exit the charming Deboche after breakfast and continue with our downhill walk towards Namche. However, it will not be a boring and the same old descent. We will take a diverse route via Tengboche that we missed a visit during the starting part of the journey.
From Deboche, our route runs downhill towards the beautiful and the most important monastery of Tengboche that not only offers the insights into the monks’ lives but also blesses us with the bewildering views of Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and many other peaks once again.
From the monastery, we will now enter the Dudh Koshi River Valley and cross the suspension bridge to reach Phungi Thenga which will shortly lead us to Namche.
The return trip is always faster and easier. The trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla takes about 6-8 hours. Walking past Jorsalle, Monjo, Benkar, Phakding, Thadokoshi, Chaurikhark, and Chheplung, we will eventually reach the small town of Lukla. After settling in the lodge, we will congratulate each other on completing an extraordinary but impressive trek to the Himalayas!
In the morning we will fly back to Kathmandu, where upon arrival we will settle in the hotel and have half a day to visit the old part of the city and the temples. We will visit the Durbar Square and other historical sites of the capital.
Today, if you wish, we can organize a whole-day private tour of the capital. We can take a ride to Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. If time permits, we may extend our trip by visiting Patan and Bhaktapur as well.
In the evening, we will together with our team enjoy a cultural meal in one of the finest restaurants in the city.
We also operated private trips.
The best time to sign up for the Everest Base Camp trek 15 Days is autumn from September, October to November when the sky is clear and the weather is warm and mild. The temperature in the Sagarmatha region fluctuates between 6 to 22°C during the day and 2 to -5°C at night.
From March to May, spring fills the landscapes and Khumbu valleys with color and life. Deciduous trees have leaves again, the field is covered with beautiful flowers. Mother Nature will be at Fullest as the temperature remains mild, between 14°C to -10°C in Khumbu.
From June to August, the rains are very heavy, especially in Kathmandu Valley. Temperatures are high at this time of year, around 28°C in the mountainous regions posing the risk of landslides and avalanches.
From December to February, the winter season prevails lowering the temperature down to 0 degrees Celsius or below. It is possible to hike in the Sagarmatha region but you have to make yourself very warm as the temperature will be much lower (at least -5 ° C). However, it is a good time to enjoy the snow along the route.
The celebrated destination of Everest Base Camp, approximately 200 to 300 km away from Kathmandu, proudly sits in Everest National Park at an elevation of 5364 m above sea level. The journey to the Base Camp commences from Lukla, a Sherpa town at 2800 m altitude, reachable within 30 to 35 minutes flight from the capital due to the short distance of 135 km.
From Lukla, the impressive Everest Base Camp is only 65 km away and a circular route back to Kathmandu thus covers 130 km in total.
Kala Patthar towering at 5545 m represents the highest point of our Everest Base Camp 15 Days while Gorakshep, at 5180 m serves as the highest overnight stop during our journey.
Throughout our Everest Base Camp trek of 15 Days, we will walk for 11 days averaging 4 to 6 hours of walking each day. Our team has carefully planned the walking duration following the basic rule of acclimatization. Most of the day, we will walk steadily, at our pace without exerting our bodies too much.
The shortest and easiest walk will be on day 2 when we travel from Lukla town to reach Phakding Village within 3 to 4 hours. The most arduous walking will be on the ninth and tenth day as we journey from Lobuche to reach Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep, summit Kala Patthar, and descend to Lobuche respectively.
Both days demand a 7 to 8-hour journey on foot along the glacial landscape.
The Everest Base Camp 15 Days trek is labeled as a moderately challenging expedition in the great Himalayas. The 11 days of hiking trip doesn’t need any technical expertise, special gear, or experience of high-altitude travels. And the route is well-marked so there is no chance of getting lost.
Almost all the trail runs along a rocky path that transitions from the dense forests to barren land. However, we will not lie, some days can be very difficult especially when proceeding to Namche, you will have to overcome a wide slope and when marching to Everest Base Camp, you will have to overcome the snow ridges inclined to almost 30 degrees angle.
On the other hand, you will reach an altitude of more than 5000 m within a few days. You will be quickly transitioned from 1350 m to 2800 m within 30 minutes almost gaining 1400 m. therefore, we have scheduled a rest day in Namche and another in Dingboche with planned acclimating walks to their respective landmarks.
The Everest Base Camp Trek is not an easy trek to be taken lightly but it is also not a hard and challenging trek that you cannot take. With a mediocre challenge, this trek is suitable for a newcomer to Nepal who likes to see the Great Himalayas that exist on the planet.
The prerequisites for our Everest Base Camp treks of 15 Days are good health, average fitness, a positive attitude, adaptability, good stamina, and a huge smile. If you fulfill all these conditions, then you are more than welcome in this exceptional journey.
We promise you after completing the journey, you will not remember the difficulties but only the silhouettes of the world’s highest peaks, the power of stone and ice, hanging bridges, the Nepalese greeting, and smiling Sherpas.
Getting to Everest Base Camp doesn’t require any special fitness, but you definitely need some practice before your trip. Of course, it mustn’t be in the last week but at least a month before your trip.
The best exercise for this trip is climbing stairs (in high buildings, apartments, or somewhere in the city leading to a mountain), hiking in mountainous areas, and spending more time not walking on a flat road, but climbing hills.
Any other vigorous activity that increases your heart rate and breathing rate (cardio) is a good workout that may include running and cycling as well.
Those who love nature and enjoy hiking can choose to follow the longer trekking path from Jiri to Phakding, passing through secluded and picturesque villages that were once walked by Tenzing and Hillary.
But if you are one of those who like to travel in comfort, style, and luxury, then a one-day helicopter tour of Everest Base Camp can be a better option for you.
And for those who like to venture deep into the Khumbu Valley can combine the Gokyo Lake trip, the Tashi Lapcha Pass trek, or the Three Passes trek, with our Everest Base Camp trek 15 Days.
Those who also like to register as the official climbers of the mountains can direct your path from Everest Base Camp to climb Lobuche Peak or Island Peak.
The alpine route of the Everest Base Camp trek undoubtedly happens at high altitude which means that altitude sickness can bother you and may get worse with ascent. It affects everyone, regardless of age, gender, athleticism, and body type.
This is the main problem that causes weakness, shortness of breath, headache, nausea, and sleep disorders. In order for the body to acclimatize more easily, you need to drink a lot of fluids (about 3-4 liters per day) and walk slowly.
In the highlands, please do not rush; even if you manage to cover a section half an hour faster than the others, you will certainly not make Himalayan history, but there is a good chance that you will drain yourself so much that you will not walk at all the next day, or you will be far behind.
Every now and then, you can consider taking the Diamox tablets which the diuretic drug helps to decrease the condition of altitude sickness.

Located near the Khumbu Glacier, the Everest Base Camp is a campsite designated by the Nepal government for climbers setting to conquer Mount Everest. Over time, the location of the base camp has undergone several changes. Previously, it was situated at Gorakshep. The base camp keeps moving around to prioritize the safety of climbers. With global warming, the Khumbu icefall is melting, and the camp has been greatly affected by pollution, leading to the need for relocation.
Yes, Everest is not visible from the base camp but setting foot at the camp will give you the right to boast about literally reaching to the foot of the mighty Everest. And because we cannot see Everest from the camp, we, therefore, hike to Kala Patthar for its exclusive view up close.
We will spend probably around an hour in the Base Camp which will be enough to explore the area and witness the amazing mountain vistas. Spending the entire day probably may not be possible as we will have to go back to our accommodation in Gorakshep for an early morning climb to Kala Patthar.
Yes, you can if you are willing to face the challenge of minus temperature. In addition, not manly lodges will be opened in winter increasing the necessity to spend nights in tents. However, the mountain views will be spectacular.
