The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the newest trekking routes in Nepal; it was opened to the masses in 2012. Initially, the route did not receive many international or local tourist visits. Up until 2018, the Mardi Himal trek itinerary was relatively unknown, with only 1500 visitors per year, but it all changed gradually with rapid tourism growth in the 2020s.
As per the statistics of the last peak season, an average of 400 people were visiting the destination every single day for the entirety of October 2023. At present, the Mardi Himal trek itinerary is a popular trekking route that has grown to be able to accommodate over 500 visitors at once.
Located in the southwest part of the Annapurna Himalayan range, the Mardi Himal trek route offers a stunning scene of the entire Annapurna range along with a unique trekking experience through the Magar and Gurung villages.
For seasoned and beginner trekkers alike, this trek offers a naturally beautiful escape from the cities with a panoramic view of the great white Himalayas that is sure to captivate you. Being an accessible destination, this trekking route sees thousands of nature lovers every year.
One of the best things about this Mardi Himal Trek itinerary is the unforgettable sunrise and sunset views that are nothing you have ever seen before. You can enjoy these scenic treats sitting on a wooden chair by tea shops located high in the hills.
The Mardi Himal trek itinerary is the perfect getaway for individuals seeking to trek the hills past lush green forests to reach the base of an actual mountain peak, just like our perfect Mardi Himal Trek package which we will be discussing in great detail below.
This will be your first day in Nepal and the official start of the Mardi Himal trek journey. You will land at the international airport in Kathmandu, where we will be waiting to welcome you and escort you to your designated hotel.
After a long flight to Kathmandu, you should probably get enough rest as we will be sightseeing in the valley tomorrow. Your first day can be nervous but you don’t have to concern yourself about the Mardi Himal Trek difficulty.
Kathmandu Valley is full of cultural sites, world heritage sites, and many more attractions that you must visit since you are here. These attractions are not only popular tourist spots but also serve as important cultural and historical sites for the people of Nepal.
Most of the sites that we visit are of religious importance to Hindu and Buddhist followers. And since these are protected/conserved monuments, you will have to buy a ticket to enter the premises. This expense will not be covered by the Mardi Himal Trek package.
These temples and shrines are aesthetically attractive and have intricate wood carving designs as per the theme of the time they were built. One of the best things to do during your sightseeing day is to bring a camera along as you will be taking a lot of pictures.
Pokhara is a beautiful city 200km west of Kathmandu, full of natural attractions and adventurous activities. We will be traveling via tourist bus for about 6 hours to reach our destination of the day.
While in Pokhara, you can relax by the lake, indulge in the nightlife, or simply visit one of the local attractions. Pokhara offers many things that we bet you will not be bored during your time in the city.
This transportation from Kathmandu to Pokhara will not cost you anything extra, as we will be covering it as a part of the Mardi Himal trek service. You can also opt for a flight to Pokhara; however, we will not be covering your flight expenses.
On the 4th day of your Mardi Himal trek journey, you will finally trek on the hills of Nepal and learn the Mardi Himal Trek difficulty. Starting the day with a delicious breakfast, we will prepare for the trek and get on a ride to Phedi.
First off, we will reach Dhampus via Phedi, a lovely Gurung village with a scenic view of the Annapurna Himalayan range. This village is a 1.5-hour drive away from Pokhara; we will be making a quick stop there.
Continuing our journey, we will start our trek to Pothana shortly. We will trek for 5 to 6 hours to reach Pothana and spend the night there.
Located on the trail to Annapurna Base camp, the village of Landruk is a popular stop for most trekkers in the region. From Pothana, it’s a 5 to 6-hour trek away.
Named after the Gurung people who once lived in the village, this Gurung settlement lies east of the Modi Khola and is known for warm hospitality. Villages like these make the Mardi Himal Trek difficulty more tolerable.
After spending a calming night at the village of Landruk, we will have a traditional filling breakfast prepared by the locals.
Today’s trail is a gentle ascend through forests of Hemlock, Oak, Maple, and Rhododendron, where hundreds of species of birds thrive. If you are lucky enough, you might see a couple of rare birds. Overseeing the villages of Landruk and Ghandruk, this route is a scenic road that offers a glimpse of the Himalayas along with the valley plains.
First, we will reach the forest camp, where we will take a short break to regain our breath. From there, we will trek a steeper route to Low Camp. It will take us about 7 to 8 hours to reach the Low Camp.
One of the best things to do at Low Camp is to enjoy the sunrise view with a warm cup of coffee. As we walk the road to High Camp, the surrounding forest slowly gets thin and eventually disappears. This allows us to have a clear view of the surroundings for the rest of the trek.
After an hour and a half of ascending, we reach Badal Danda, a popular viewpoint of the region. We might also see Danphe, the national bird of Nepal, on the way. We will reach the high camp in about 5 hours.
Spending a chilly night at high camp, we will start our trek to the Mardi Himal Base Camp shortly after having a locally prepared breakfast. We will be ascending more than 1000 meters today, so make sure that you do not rush the trail.
We will reach our main destination after about 6 hours of trekking. The view from the base camp is one-of-a-kind; you will not see anything like that anywhere else.
The following day, we will descend to Low Camp following the same scenic trail we ascended. Compared to the previous days, we will have a relatively easy 5-hour of trekking since we will be descending.
After a night at low camp, we will trek further down to the village of Siding, another beautiful village full of natural attractions. We will reach there in about 3 hours, and the best part about this descent is the easy trail.
We will have our lunch in Siding while our Jeep awaits us to take us to the city of Pokhara. It will be a 3-hour ride to Pokhara.
After spending the night at Pokhara, we will travel to Kathmandu the next day. We will arrange your transportation needs; you will be traveling via tourist bus, which is much more comfortable and adjustable compared to standard buses in Nepal.
You can always opt for a flight, but we will not be responsible for the expenses. However, we will help you book your flight.
Since day 11 is officially the last day of your Mardi Himal Trek journey, we will arrange a farewell dinner for you. The theme of the dinner will be cultural Nepalese dishes. This will be the end of the Mardi Himal Trek itinerary.

One thing that you do not need to worry about is the Mardi Himal Trek difficulty. It is one of the easiest treks you can go on. The trail all the way to Mardi Himal base camp is relatively easy, with no difficult passage or technical climbs anywhere.
On a scale of 1 to 10, we would rate its difficulty as four since you will have to trek for hours in the hills of Nepal. The only difficult thing about this trek is the final part when you have to leave it all behind and go back to your normal life.
The spring season is definitely the best season since the weather will be perfect for viewing the scenes, and you are less likely to experience rainfall. During the months of March, April, and May, you will have the best time trekking any destination as the majority of flowers blossom during this time, new grasses grow, and nature is just reborn.
Another good option is to travel this trek during the Autumn season. The weather during this season is similar to Spring, but you will not be able to see the Rhododendron flowers blooming along the way to low base camp.
Yes, beginners are especially welcome to join this Mardi Himal Trek itinerary as we want more people to be closer to nature. And what is a better way to get close to nature than going on a week-long trip to a magnificent destination suitable for everyone?
The trail is beginner-friendly, and you should be able to ascend to the base camp of Mardi Himal with little to no physical preparations. Most of the people who trek this Mardi Himal Trek itinerary are beginners who are looking for a perfect destination to start their trekking life. Being an easy trekking destination, this trek is also good for seasoned trekkers; the view is as beautiful as any other difficult trekking destination.
Altitude Sickness at a 4500-meter elevation is not a common occurrence, but just to be safe, we will be stopping at certain villages each day to acclimatize to the changing elevation and oxygen percentage in the air.
We also recommend you stay hydrated throughout the Mardi Himal trek as lack of water in your body can and might lead to altitude sickness. Altitude sickness in this elevation means you will feel a little dizzy and short of breath; in general, it is nothing serious.
At a 4500-meter elevation, the oxygen things out, but it decreases by a trivial amount, so you should not worry about it too much. Just focus on enjoying the trek.
From day one to day 11 of your Mardi Himal Trek trip, we will be responsible for providing you with accommodations. We will be there to pick you up from the airport and drop you off at the hotel where you are supposed to stay for the night. The following day, we will take you on a private vehicle on a sightseeing trip inside the Kathmandu Valley.
At the end of the trek, we will drop you off at Pokhara from Siding, and at the end of the Mardi Himal Trek itinerary, we will take you from your hotel to the international airport as per your flight time.
To travel to the route of Mardi Himal trek, you will require the Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) Permit and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Permit. These permits cost a couple of thousand rupees and are used for the development of the region.
Without these permits, you will not be able to travel this trek, as we are to buy and submit these permits at the different checkpoints we encounter along the way. As a part of the package, we will be covering these expenses, and our guides will get these permits for you. You do not have to go through any of the hassle.
If you are a frequent gym goer, you do not need to worry much about preparing for the Mardi Himal Trek itinerary; do not worry about the Mardi Himal Trek difficulty at all. It is one of the easiest trekking destinations. The Mardi Himal Trek itinerary is designed to be easily accessible.
But if you are usually physically inactive, you might get very tired to walk another day after the first one. So, we recommend you do some kind of exercise. As long as you train your legs or train for endurance, you will be fit for the trek.
Training for this trek is not mandatory, but it is good to have the physical capability to trek the Mardi Himal Trek itinerary without any prolonged huffing and puffing.
You have two major options as alternative routes. Your first option is the Ghandruk Mardi Himal trek. In this trek, you will first make your way to Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung village sitting at an elevation of 2012 meters. We will descend to Landruk the following day and follow the same route we originally discussed. The trek ends at Siding.
The other option includes incorporating the Annapurna Base Camp trek. This trek follows the same path as Mardi Himal but is a bit further than Mardi Himal Base Camp, so it will take a couple of days more than the Mardi Himal trek itinerary. If you can spare a couple of days more, we absolutely recommend this trek.
This Mardi Himal Trek will cost you just NRs. _______, which is really a steal. You will also be able to access Wi-Fi from most of the establishments where we will stay. But it is your personal expense if you are billed for using the wifi.
As much as we would like to, we just can not cover all your expenses during your Mardi Himal Trek. Your extra expenses include additional accommodations, additional meals, any kind of drinks, your visa fees upon arrival at the international airport in Kathmandu, travel and medical insurance, flight fare, excess luggage (15 kg max), hot showers in lodges, tips for the crew members (porters and guides), sight-seeing ticket expenses in Kathmandu, and charging/WiFi expenses.
