Experience the classic Himalayas in magnificent landscapes in our 10 days Langtang region trek without having to trek for 2 or 3 weeks. This short yet remarkable adventure provides each participant a unique chance to revel in the true mountains, and hills of Nepal thus creating enduring memories for a life.
On Hill Sherpa’s Langtang Valley trek route, you will experience lush river valleys, the land of the yak, and the high Himalayas, but also remote villages that rarely see tourists compared to the main valley.
Located north of Kathmandu, Langtang Valley shares its charm from an elevation of 3400 meters. The valley is encircled by the captivating Langtang National Park, where adorable fluffy red pandas, langurs, and Himalayan Thar are a common sight.
Additionally, the Tamangs and Sherpas, with their exceptional extraordinary skills, culture, traditions, and cuisine, further enrich the experience of visiting this area.
Our Langtang short trek also offers thrill seekers the perfect opportunity to test their skills when traversing the glacial landscapes of two stunning Kyimoshung and Lirung glaciers when making it to the tip of the Kyanjin Ri.
On the other hand, ascending to the tip of Tsergo Ri presents a demanding climb that can serve as an excellent acclimatization opportunity before undertaking the Everest Base Camp trek.
Both summits offer extensive to-die-for views of the expansive Langtang region and the peaks of Yala, Langtang Ri, Langtang Lirung, Naya Khang, and Gyanghempo.
With equal trekking opportunities throughout the year, the 10 Days Langtang Region Trek thus provides a unique chance to experience the true essence of Nepal – an original side that is often forgotten amidst the popular trails to Everest or Annapurna.
Our Langtang trek commences with a long drive along the winding hilly road to Syabrubeshi. From here, the trek proceeds towards Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa.
The quaint town of Kyanjin Gompa serves as our acclimatization spot for a two-day stay, during which we have the option to ascend either Kyanjin Ri or Tsergo Ri. The circular route then leads us back to Kathmandu, passing through the familiar villages of Lama Hotel and Syabrubesi.
Tashidelek! Welcome to the surreal city of temples, the land of enchanting culture- Kathmandu. Our assigned representative, after pleasantly receiving you, will take you to the hotel in the picturesque center of the city.
Afterward, you can go out and explore Kathmandu’s old town with its small alleyways and hidden Hindu and Buddhist temples.
The day begins early as we have to depart for Syabrubesi which serves as the passage to the Langtang National Park. After we are out of the Kathmandu Valley, the road drives us towards the bustling market of Trishuli where a brief stopover is important for lunch and some snacks.
The charming old royal city of Nuwakot will be en route. The road now winds out toward Rani Pauwa and Dhunche with Ganesh, Manaslu, and Annapurna in the distance. The motor road now goes down to Syabrubeshi along the Bhote Khola where there is the first mountain overnight stay.
From Syabrubeshi, the trail today will be relatively easy upwards all day. The good new path passes through the glorious forest with mixed vegetation. Keep a sharp eye above for the cutest red pandas and langur monkeys up on the trees.
The trekking path now goes along the Bhote Koshi river and passes a few bridges and a small beautiful waterfall. We will continue walking on the track towards Thulo Syabru which leads to Gosaikunda.
Next, we will pass a huge landslide area into an enormous deep
valley, which is the start of Langtang itself. Shortly, the long suspension bridge over the Langmoche River eagerly awaits our crossing.
Now traversing the deep large bamboo grove, we will walk next to the beautiful Langtang Khola. We are now in the last part of our today’s trek, now we will go through the Rimche hamlet after which the forest opens up and the path climbs up for half an hour to Changtang better known as the Lama Hotel.
The forest has become more open offering us excellent views of the large open Langtang Valley and the high steep mountains walls of Langtang II and Langtang Lirung surrounding the valley from both sides.
The semi-alpine landscape goes through the tiny village of Ghuman Chowk. Past the Chhunama hamlet, we will reach Ghoda Tabela (2950 m) after a 1.5-hour trek. The village name translates into the stable of horses which is unbelievably beautiful and leads to open countryside to the northeast.
After we reach the edge of the village, the small checkpost will inspect our permits after which we will pass by the remarkable Tibetan countryside towards the 3140 m high Thyangsyap Village.
En route, we will stumble upon numerous waterfalls falling down from the larger cliffs. The track now climbs up steadily towards the tiny hamlets of Chyamki and Ghumba. After we trek across the metal bridge, the Langtang Village hails us for the night.
The terrain now rises slowly opening the dazzling views of Tsergo Ri, Gangchempo, Kinsung, Kyanjin Ri, Langtang Lirung, and Langshisha Ri. The rising track goes through long paths with mani walls on both sides. The road passes Mundo and Singdun to descend to a small stream at Yemphu.
Now a final stretch will take us steeply down over moraine deposits leading us directly to the Kyanjin Gompa itself, which is the highest dwelling in the Langtang Valley.
There is accommodation in a regular lodge village with world-class views of a mountain vista almost 360 degrees around. We will also use the half day as an acclimatization day.
This town as the name suggests consist of a small attractive monastery situated 10 minute far from the village. The impressive views of Lirung Glacier opens from the small Gompa. Later, we may also take a small tour of the 1965 built the Swiss cheese factory. Here we can get the taste of fresh full-fat yak cheese and pure yogurt.
Today, we have two possibilities to spend the day: either climb the Kyanjin Ri or the Tsergo Ri.
The trekking route to the Kyanjin Ri goes up towards the large icefalls of the Kyimoshung and Lirung glaciers in an impressive landscape for about 3 to 4 hours before reaching the top of the Peak.
The view of Langtang Lirung and Naya Kanga is fabulous but perhaps even more beautiful is Gangchempo, Yansa Tsenji, and Langtang Valley. The track now descends to Kyanjin town for a relaxing afternoon.
As for the hike to the Tsergo Ri, the climb will be long and strenuous and relentlessly ascends for a few hours along the well-defined ridge. The last part of the ascension is pure block land and the last meters can be a strenuous affair.
But the view from the top is nothing less than world-class. Here there is a direct view of Naya Kanga, Ganja La Pass, Gangchempo, Yala Peak, Langshisa Ri, Yansa Tsenji, and Ponggen Dokpu. The descent also takes place through the same route till we reach our lodge in the town.
Today, we will have a wonderful walking day through the central Langtang. It is a special experience to see the well-known landscape from the other side and it gives a completely different effect than on the outing. The trip goes out of the valley, via Mundu and Ghoda Tabela back to Langmoche from where the track goes on to Lama Hotel.
On the last day, we will hike down towards Syabrubesi with the last views of Nepal’s beautiful landscapes. Walking past the Rimche and Thulo Syabru, we will once again enjoy the fantastic views of Ganesh, and Langtang.
Once the alpine vegetation has now turned into wide forests thus making the descent more pleasurable.
We will now gather our things and get into our transport to drive past Dhunche, Rani Pauwa, and Nuwakot. The road once again passes through the steep Trishuli River back to Kathmandu where we will arrive in late afternoon.
The adventure of the Langtang region trek ended and now it’s time to go home. We will give you a company to TIA from where you will commence your return journey. I hope you enjoyed your holiday and the Langtang region trek.
Thank you.
We also operate private trips.
Being so close to Kathmandu, the Langtang region more or less shares a similar weather pattern as the capital. Therefore, all the four seasons of spring, summer, winter, and fall present a delightful time for the Langtang Valley trek.
Langtang Valley enjoys a temperate climate where springtime (March to May) offers one of the most beautiful climates for the trekking adventure. The hillsides in Langtang enjoy sunshine for 9 hours a day with an average temperature of 25 to 35 degrees Celsius. The mountains here will be immersed in a sea of colors from the rhododendron bloom.
The autumn time (September to November) marks the most favorable time for the Langtang trek as the rain decreases, with longer days and temperature is pleasant for all kinds of activities. Dashain and Tihar, the longest and largest festival is also celebrated across Nepal giving you a great festive vibe.
The summer months (June to August) however are characterized by the rainy season, which means many rainy days in Kathmandu and Langtang. So this time is not that ideal for trekking forcing you to stay inside for most of the days.
The winter time (December to February) also offers sunny days with mild and pleasant temperatures of about 20 degrees Celsius. There will be no rain and the nights are quite bearable.
Elevation and distance
The total distance of the Langtang short trek is 77 km, which includes the ascent of either Kyanjin Ri or Tsergo Ri. Towering at an elevation of 3400 m, Langtang village is approximately 61.8 km farther from Kathmandu.
The entire trek is achieved within a week with the approximate distance to be covered every day being only 10 to 12 km. Starting from Syabrubesi, which is 122 km from Kathmandu, we need to cover only 28.4 km to reach Langtang Village.
The highest altitude we will reach in this trek is either at Kyanjo Ri at 4,773 m or Tsergo Ri at 5,033 m, while the highest sleeping point is Kyanjin Gompa at 3870 m.
Maximum/Minimum walk per day
The Langtang Valley trek is all about a relaxed and serene walk through the sparsely walked trail to the north of the capital. Our 10-day itinerary consists of 6 days of relatively easy and straightforward walks, where each day, the walking lasts 4 to 7 hours approximately. Unlike other trekking trips in Nepal, there are no or very less steep ascents and descents along the way.
The easiest and shortest walk occurs on day 5, as we journey from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa in 4 to 5 hours. The most challenging day is the following day, if we chose to hike to the tip of the Tsergo Ri. Although not lengthy, it will be quite strenuous but manageable.
The longest walking days will be on days 3 and 4, as we travel from Syabrubeshi to Langtang Village via Lama Hotel, where each day’s walk lasts 6 to 7 hours- the longest walking hours of the entire 10 days Langtang Region Trek.
The degree of difficulty of 10 Days Langtang Region Trek is just below medium and graded as Level C making it a slightly easier intermediate level of trekking in higher mountain areas. The days typically include 5 to 7 hours of hiking where the high altitude above 5000 m at Tsergo Ri can occur.
This trek involves traveling from one lodge to another at a relatively comfortable altitude where the highest sleeping point does not exceed 4000 m. The altitude may have a slight impact on health, so we have planned two rest days at Kyanjin Gompa, during which we will participate in an acclimating walk to the tip of Kyanjin Ri or Tsergo Ri.
The paths are also well pointed out, and pretty straight. We have to deal with some sharp climbing up and down but it is perfectly manageable and attainable. There are no glacial crossings except for at Tsergo Ri and of course, no ice crevasses to overcome. The technical knowledge requirement is nil. So any fit individual in good physical shape can join our Langtang region trek.
The Langtang region trek is the perfect trip to experience one of the smaller Himalayan high valleys within a short period of time. Part of the valley was destroyed by the extensive earthquake of 2015 but now the teahouses, paths, and bridges have been rebuilt with modern amenities, which is why this trip is perfect for newcomers to Nepal who like to taste the authentic mountain adventure and also for a small family adventure with children and elderly or a beautiful serene honeymoon tour.
Anyone who has a love for hiking adventure can undertake our Langtang Valley trek with ease. If you already are in good health, regularly exercise, maintain an active and healthy lifestyle, and do not have any issues of joint pain, cardio, or respiratory diseases, then any specific training or preparation is not necessary.
However, it is always preferable if you get yourself to long hiking hours of at least 4 to 5 hours a day. So go jogging and running early in the morning in the park and uplift your regime by hiking to a low-altitude mountain region.
Or, you can also prepare by engaging in exercise routines such as running, fitness training, swimming, biking, etc., 2 to 3 times a week during the last 2 months leading up to the trip.
The occurrence of altitude sickness is rare during our 10 Days Langtang Region Trek, however, it is essential to be prepared for the possibility as we will be spending a minimum of 4 nights and days above 3000 m. At Kyanjin Gompa, we may even ascend above 5000 m.
The symptoms of altitude sickness will be particularly mild, including headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. These symptoms usually resolve on their own within 2 to 3 days. However, to alleviate these signs quickly, Diamox tablets can be taken.
The most effective approach is to prevent altitude sickness by staying hydrated, consuming a lot of liquid diet, gradually taking your pace, and acclimatizing properly following the guidance of the tour leader.
You can prolong your Langtang region trek by merging the Langtang circuit trek. The circuit road continues from Kyanjin Gompa towards Thulo Syabru which then merges with the Gosaikunda trail. The trekking route then leads you through the unique hamlets of Ghopte, Kutumsang, and Chispani to Sundarijal from where you will journey back to Kathmandu.
Another favorable way t extend your itinerary is to merge the Helambu trip with the Langtant trek. From Lama Hotel, you will follow the route through Thulo Syabru guiding you towards Sing Gompa, Gosaikunda Lake, and then to the mighty Laure Binayak La Pass.
Throughout our 10 Days Langtang Region Trek, your transport will take place through private vehicle (car, van, jeep, or bus depending on group size). Our private car will pick you up from TIA and drop you at a hotel in Kathmandu. At the end of the Langtang region trek, the same service will be provided to take you from your hotel to TIA. A private jeep or bus will transport you from Kathmandu to Syabrubeshi, from where you will officially commence your trek.
Your sleeping arrangement in Kathmandu will be in a three-star hotel with a room between two people. Throughout the trek, you will sleep in comfortable tea houses with cozy rooms containing two beds. Private bathrooms and hot showers will be available until Lama Hotel. However, in Kyanjin Gompa, the amenities will be more basic with shared bathrooms and an additional charge for hot showers.
Breakfast and dinner will be provided at the accommodating lodge, while lunch will be served at the tea houses along the route. Additionally, fresh fruit from Hil Sherpa will be offered every evening.
In Kathmandu, our team will aid you in buying and activating the NCELL or NTC mobile service. Both national networks provide good coverage all over the Langtang region with fast 4G service for internet connectivity.
WIFI will be accessible at the lodges in the Langtang region at an additional charge but the connection can be really slow depending on the number of users.
You can charge a mobile, camera, and power bank at an extra fee and the cost may differ based on the device you charge.
The entry permit for Langtang National Park along with the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) is mandatory for our 10 Days Langtang Region Trek which will be acquired by our guide in Dunche on the way to drive Syabrubesi.
(Note: first aid kits & medicine will be carried with our company’s guide during the trekking However, we recommend you bring your personal first-aid kit)

Yes, it is perfectly safe to trek to the Langtang region now. The valley was damaged yes but now a complete restoration has been achieved thanks to the effort of the locals and the authorities. The newly built lodges are now more or less earthquake-resistant.
Although beautiful and worth visiting, this trek is less popular because of lack of publicity. But now, more and more visitors are engaging in the Langtang Valley trek because of the positive word-of-mouth and the active involvement of the local population.
You can travel to Langtang in summer despite the rain presenting its own charm. Rainy season does not mean continuous rain for days, but rather regular, short showers, usually in the afternoon or evening. Despite these showers, there are many sunny hours and the landscape has a lush green glow, which gives your adventure a very special charm.
A week to ten days is enough for this Langtang region trek.
The Langtang region trek is the easiest trek you can take in the mountainous area of Nepal. Because of its short duration, easy and straight paths, and tea house to tea house trek, it is no doubt an easy trek compared to the EBC and ABC trek.
