Trip Overview

QUIT DREAMING AND DO IT. 11 days Everest base camp trek, short Adventure and unadulterated beauty abound on this Everest Base Camp 5,364 meters, which is located at the foot of the world’s highest mountain (8,848.86 meters), is one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations. With the Lamas at Tengboche, recite the powerful Buddhist chant OM MANI PADME HUM.

This trek was created by Hill Sherpa Trekking especially for those who are pressed for time but still wish to visit Everest Base Camp. At the lowest cost, this (EBC) 11-Day Everest Base Camp Trek offers plenty of excitement and adventure. We will take the quickest route to get you there, and you will return with lifelong memories.

Your once-in-a-lifetime adventure begins with an exhilarating short scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. After spending your first day on the trail in Phakding, you continue on to the well-known Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar (3440 m), where the adventure starts and where the majority of Sherpas working in the tourism sector reside. As we leave Namche Bazaar, we maintain the trail to Tengboche, a Buddhist village, and the holy Buddhist temple Dawa Choling Gompa, where you can see the stunning prayer mantras and wish yourself your own safe journey to the most sought after location of the Everest area.

We leave Namche Bazaar and climb up to Dingboche, then on to higher altitudes where your body will be put to the test. In an attempt to ease acclimatizing, we break at Dingboche, where we will stay busy in an attempt to acclimatize better (doctor’s orders). We depart Dingboche and make our way to Lobuche (4,910 meters), where we can enjoy breathtaking views of the massive Himalaya Massif.

The following morning, we ascend to Everest Base Camp (5364 m) and let our imagination transport us back nearly 72 years ago when Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing were in our position and dreamt of ascending the world’s highest peak, Mt Everest (8848 m).

We can see the enormous Khumbu Glacier, which rises from 4900 meters to its source at 7,600 meters. We head back to Gorakshep (5185 m) after leaving EBC. We hike to Kala Patthar (5550 m) the next day, where sunrises on Everest and Khumbu Glaciers will have you spellbound as variations of light reflect off the face of this massive peak. The trek further takes us to Gorak Shep, Pheriche, Namche Bazaar, and finally Lukla.

The aerial flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, which gives you a bird’s eye view of these snow giants, is one of the trip’s highlights. Everest Base Camp trekking is not walk in the park, yet for the moderately prepared, it will manage the challenging hike. It is a once in a lifetime adventure that will provide you with memories that last a lifetime.

To make this trek less taxing, Hill Sherpa Trekking can modify it to fit your needs and extend it to a 15 days Everest Base Camp Trek.

You don’t have to climb Everest to marvel at its magnificence. To be at its base will delight even the most adventurous spirit and etch into your mind the grand panorama that stretches heavenward.

Everest Base Camp Trek 11 Days Itinerary

01

Domestic Manthali Ramchhap to Lukla flights, which run in peak season months of March-May and September-November

Flights to Lukla are rerouted from Ramechhap/Manthali during months of March, April, May, September, October, and November because of the massive air traffic at Kathmandu. Rather than Kathmandu to Manthali, we have to drive 4-5 hours, which becomes an alternative to the gateway of Lukla during these months.

On Departure Day

Your trek starts from 1 – 2 am. You will take a public tourist bus/Hiace to Manthali Airport and then fly for only 20 minutes to Lukla Airport.

Kathmandu–Lukla Flights off-Season (Jan–Feb, Jun–Aug, Dec)
For these months, Lukla flights usually depart directly from Kathmandu and not Manthali. On such a day, expect an early morning flight. It takes 20 minutes from your hotel to Kathmandu domestic airport, then a direct scenic flight to Lukla.

Note: Flight timings are subject to change depending on passenger numbers, as they are operated by the airlines.

Helicopter Option

Everest Base Camp Trek 12 Days, For the luxury, speedy service, we can offer the direct helicopter transfer service from Kathmandu to Lukla with an additional cost of USD 500-600 per person on a plane sharing of five persons. How to avoid losing a good night’s sleep during the busiest trekking seasons, which are March through May and October through November, and the four to five-hour road trip from Kathmandu to Manthali

Trek Preparation & Trek to Phakding

A day before your departure flight, pack and prepare your trekking gear. Have a nutritious breakfast when you get to Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla early in the morning. Meet the porters at Lukla; each porter will have two trekkers carrying your equipment.

The 11 days trek begins from Lukla to Phakding via a gentle walk. The trek gradually moves upward along the riverbank of Dudh Koshi River, and you cross Chheplung and position yourself on the Everest base camp route. Moving a little further, you come across Ghat, a notably small village, before reaching Phakding and getting ready for tomorrow’s journey towards Namche Bazar.

We set off after breakfast along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River on a zigzagging track that weaves us over shaking suspension bridges suspended from prayer flags that sway softly in the mountain breeze. Growls from the river below and distant chirps of birds echo in the valley as we walk up into the heart of the Khumbu region.

Soon, and we reach the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate; we halt here while permits are verified before going on to this ancient land. We have been ascending gradually, then more steeply as we proceed onward to higher and higher altitudes. And with every step, the view expands, snowy summits reach toward heaven, glacial streams glisten in the sun, and ancient mani stones marked with eternal prayers line the trail like guardian spirits.

Early in the evening, we arrive in Sherpa town Namche Bazaar, which is tucked away in the Himalayan natural amphitheater. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery and ancient culture, we stay overnight, with the pulse of the Himalayas in all directions.

The fairly flat trail, a 5-hour walk, to Tengboche snakes its way, crossing several valleys before Kenjoma, where it meets the Khumjung trail just before passing many Mani stones (rocks inscribed with sacred Buddhist prayers).

The views of Everest and Mt. Ama Dablam are absolutely stunning along this section of the trek. We trek along the small village of Sanasa from which the trail descends to Phunki Thanga (3250m) before ascending steeply through pine forests with more Mani stones to navigate as the path hugs the slope to arrive at Tengboche (3870m). Tengboche is well-known for its breathtaking views of some of the highest mountains in the world, such as Kwangde (6187m), Tawje peak (Tabuche) (6,419 m), Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse (8516m), Amadablam, Kantega, and Thamserku. We are staying at Tengboche tonight.

After leaving Tengboche Today, we’ll start our quick hike through a stunning setting that offers a constant view of the thumb-shaped Ama Dablam. We have a fairly easy climb today, so there is no chance of experiencing altitude sickness. The forest will gradually give way to alpine shrubs, and the landscape will gradually change as well.

We will first trek downhill across the Imja Khola to reach Pangboche village, which is at 3900 meters. The village is decorated with stone houses, wheels, and vibrant prayer flags. This is also the location of the oldest monastery, which is more than 400 years old. The Yeti scalp can also be seen here upon request.
We will now climb steeply for a while as we pass through the barley and potato fields of Dingboche village.

From Dingboche, we will begin the day by making our way uphill until we arrive at the Dusa yak farmer settlement. We will arrive in Dughla after traversing the suspension bridge, where we will eat lunch. From this village, there are some ethereal views of Cholatse (6335 m) and Taboche (6367 m).

We now begin our ascent up the moraine slope of Khumbu Glacier. We will arrive at the summit of Thukla La Pass at 4830 meters after a strenuous climb of approximately one hour. This beautiful stone pyramid is adorned with Tibetan prayer flags. Additionally, there is a memorial for those who have lost their lives while climbing Everest, including American climber Scott Fisher and ten-time Everest summiter Babu Chhiri Sherpa.

After some prayers, view the Ama Dablam, Lobuche, and Lobuche Peak Base Camp, which donate their splendor to us.

Now we will traverse a gurgling stream and say goodbye to the Khumbu Glacier, and we will feel a little short of breath from the thin air of the highlands. We are in Lobiche, where we will stay overnight.

We will begin early morning from Lobuche and trek across the moraine of Khumbu Glacier. The steep ascent will be manageable with the views of the northern face of Everest, Pumori, Mahalangur, Lingtren, Khumbutse, Nuptse, and many others before finally arriving at Goraksherp.

Then we ascend a little to attain the Thangma Riju or Lobuche Pass that offers us a 360-degree view of huge snow mountains.

We now traverse a challenging climb across the Changri glacier from where we get our very first glimpse of the world-famous Kala Patthar resting at the foot of the enormous Pumori peak.

Soon we will arrive at the last village of the Everest Base Camp trek, Gorakshep. We will rest in the lodge for our hot lunch, and then we will leave our backpacks behind and head towards Everest Base Camp.

Along the way, we’ll follow glacial rivers and white trails to climb the ridge that will lead us to the well-known base camp. You should not expect to see Everest here. Nonetheless, you can take in the breathtaking views of the Khumbu region, Nuptse, Lhotse, Khumbutse, and Pumori, as well as the magnificent Khumbu glacier and icefall.

We will head back to our lodging at Gorakshep after taking in the scenery and interacting with the campers.

How does the Everest base camp trek start?

11 days Everest base camp trek starts from Lukla and walks through the valley of Dudh Koshi River into Sagarmatha National Park. Like Hillary and Tenzing, we will pass through high mountain pastures, dense forests, and historic Sherpa settlements like Namche, Phortse, and Dingboche before reaching Lobuche. In order to enjoy the last views before reaching Lukla, we will return by a slightly different route that passes through Tengboche and Lower Pangboche.

Are you ready to set out on your ideal 11 days Everest Base Camp adventure? Click BOOK NOW to secure your spot on this amazing journey. Let’s work together to make it happen.

Best times for a Trek to Everest Base Camp

Regarding temperature, the ideal seasons for an 11-day trek to Everest Base Camp are autumn (September, October, and November) and spring (March, April, and May) for good visibility, good weather, and less chance of rain. The Everest region experiences temperatures ranging from 6 to 22°C during the day and 2 to -5°C at night during the autumn. In spring, the temperature varies from 14°C to -10°C in the day and less than zero degrees Celsius at night.

There is also an abundance of plants and animals on the 11-day Everest Base Camp Trek. By following this route through there, there are plenty of flora and fauna of the Sagaramatha National Park, and with the pink flowerings of rhododendrons, this is a memorable trip in spring and autumn.

We caution doing the winter Everest Base Camp Trek (December, January, and February) for those as experienced as possible, as this should be a better suited trek. And very bad and unsafe in the summer/monsoon months (June, July, and August) with the potential for avalanches in the higher regions and landslides in the lower regions.

Elevation and distance for 11 days Everest base camp trek

The Everest Base Camp trek is a famous site, which is at a beautiful 5364 m altitude in the beautiful Sagarmatha National Park. The distance from Kathmandu is roughly 200–300 km.

We will stand atop Kala Patthar at the highest point of 5,548 meters during our 11-day Everest Base Camp trek, and we will spend the night at Gorakshep, the highest settlement at 5,180 meters. To summarize.

The trek to Everest Base Camp will take us 65 kilometers from Lukla, and the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla is 135 kilometers. From Lukla to Everest Base Camp and back, we will walk about 130 kilometers. We will walk 10 to 15 kilometers each day.

Most/Least walking each day

During our Everest Base Camp Trek for 11 days, we will have 11 hiking days traversing very different and variable terrain, from rich green, heavy forest to alpine meadows to glacial trails. Walking will be comparatively easy on some days. Some of the days will require a considerable amount of effort.

On the very first day of the Everest Base Camp Trek, we will have a nice start to the trek with only three hours of walking along an easy trail to Phakding. The ninth day of our undertaking will involve the challenge of climbing the Kala Patthar and then making it to Pheriche, which we expect to take about 7 hours of walking.

Difficulty and Acclimatization

The Everest Base Camp Trek 11 days is excellent for anyone looking for a moderately challenging trekking experience in Nepal. The best part of this trek is that you do not need any technical skills, equipment, and gear or previous high-altitude hiking or climbing. Therefore, it is a wonderful adventure for everyone from experienced trekkers to complete novices.

Can a beginner trek to Everest Base Camp?

Of course. The Everest Base Camp Trek 11 Days provides an enjoyable and memorable experience to both experienced and beginner trekkers in Nepal. The trip is simple, with few hours of trekking per day and an opportunity to acclimatize properly.

For our Everest Base Camp Trek, do remember that you will still be climbing up and over 5000 m, managing climbs and descents, along with walking through wide scree, especially near Namche Bazaar, as well as low-angled snow ridges of up to 30 degrees above Lobuche.

Thus, it is important that you are in good health, have good stamina and strength, and maintain a positive attitude for the trip.

Preparation and training

Actually, your destination, Everest Base Camp, is not at an altitude of 8848 m, but still, an altitude of almost 5500 m is nothing to take lightly. There are always many challenges you would face with this trek, such as harsh weather, rugged trails, and basic conditions.

Based on that, we recommend all Everest Base Camp participants complete some regular exercise and physical preparation at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead of their trip dates.

To start the acclimatization process towards a high-altitude trek, we recommend a short trek or hike in the country prior to your trek. If that is not possible, then carry a light backpack and go for short walks around the park daily at first, then look for stairs to walk up/down after that.

Moreover, swimming, jogging or running, squats, push-ups, and pull ups are good exercises that will prepare you and get your endurance and cardio fitness stronger.

For the Everest Base Camp Trek, for a positive and relaxed state of mind, we also recommend practicing some deep breathing exercises along with meditation for about thirty minutes each day

Alternate Routes

If you want to see the Mother of Mountain Everest, Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar are the best places to go. And there are many ways of approaching these reputable landmarks, from an easy luxury helicopter ride to an intrepid trek on the same trekking trail as Hilary and Tenzing.

A helicopter day trip can be a helicopter detour from the Everest Base Camp Trek, literally from the clouds, and you stop at Kala Patthar and Everest View Helicopter for A few breathtaking vistas of Everest and its siblings. A sunset helicopter ride to meet the Golden Himalaya will also be a reminder of home.

Or for the Everest Base Camp trek, you can also walk all the way from Jiri to Phakding, taking in some of Nepal’s fine villages and ethnic settlements, and skip the Lukla flight.

Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness can occur on the 11 Days Everest Base Camp Trek, which does not mean that everyone will suffer from the sickness. In fact, in the past, there were members who traveled with us did not have symptoms of altitude sickness, and they are still perfectly healthy adult human beings. Like the weather in the Himalayas, “altitude sickness” cannot be predicted either.

The probability is that you will only experience some minor symptoms of altitude sickness (nausea, headaches, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, shortness of breath, loss of sleep, loss of appetite). You must take these symptoms very seriously and inform our guide of any symptoms you experience.

You and your guide will also have Diamox available as a remedy. It is a diuretic drug that will cure your ailment, but you must remember not to use it as an excuse to marathon the trails. Keep in mind to keep yourself hydrated and urinate frequently.

Take your time walking and make the most of the acclimatization days. Trekking is a lifelong adventure rather than a competition.

Housing, Food, and Drinks

For the Everest Base Camp Trek 11 days, we provide standard hotel accommodation in Kathmandu, while you can share twin rooms with members of the same gender during your stay. During the trek, your accommodation will be the best available teahouse or mountain shelter designated for Sherpa persons for your accommodation.

In Kathmandu, due to the availability of a variety of options, a complimentary breakfast is served, while on the trek, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with seasonal fruit each night will be provided to each group member.

The Sherpa lodges provide many opportunities for your Everest Base Camp Trek. Among the 3 meals provided apart from Dal Bhat Tarkari include fried eggs, boiled and scrambled eggs, porridge, garlic soup, momos, fried rice, pizza, pasta, etc.

Transport Kathmandu-Lukla

We will work with you, as your friend and your spokesperson in Nepal, in making arrangements for you on a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla to Kathmandu. There will be private transport offered for the airport hotel airport transfers included on this 11 days Everest Base Camp Trek.

We will arrange a private vehicle to transport you to a town for an internal flight to Lukla in the event that your flight is diverted to Ramechhap/Manthali.

Communication, Charging Gadgets, and Internet/WIFI

When you want to keep in touch with your family, you can get a SIM card for either NCELL or NTC mobile network by presenting the required documentation and some photos to the store. These two national mobile networks can provide 4G mobile service throughout Nepal. Once you have charged your phone with some mobile balance, just dial *17123# for Ncell or *1415# for NTC to activate your data internet package.

If we are talking about the Everest Base Camp Trek 11 days, Everest Link has also made Wi-Fi connectivity available throughout the Everest region and they are doing a fantastic job by allowing the public to see live stream videos of Everest Base Camp on their YouTube channel. Everest Link makes it very easy to obtain prepaid wi-fi cards (complete with passwords) from any lodge or tea house. Also, many of the mountain shelters provide you with WIFI for a fee, say USD 5 for a 24 hours period, or USD 10 for a 48 hours period starting from Dingboche village.

Charging your gadgets is not an issue, as many of the tea house rooms have charging capabilities. Some shelters require you to charge your mobile where the common dining area is located. The extra price would also depend on what device you are charging. For example, charging your power bank would be much more expensive than powering up your mobile.

Everest Base Camp Trek Permits

Our guides will obtain the Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit and a Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit for Everest Base Camp Trek on your behalf at the last village, Lukla.

You will start your adventure with a short, scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the world’s most famous airports.

Altitude sickness is a possibility at high altitudes. As a result, we have made sure to have sufficient acclimatization days in our itinerary (most importantly in Dingboche) and continue to promote hydration and slow ascents. The guides, whilst assisting everyone, are trained to assess symptoms should any arise.

You will need clothing layers, waterproof layers, good trekking boots, warm sleeping bag, sunglasses, personal items, and a few other basics. We will send you a packing list as soon as your reservation is confirmed.

Yes, Hill Sherpa Trekking is flexible. If you’d like to take it slower, or explore the region more, we can extend it to 15 days or break it up depending on your itinerary.
