And for those fascinated by culture, you will get to meet the legendary Sherpa people, the most welcoming, brave, and inspiring folks you will ever encounter.
We strongly recommend that all our precious guests add one or two days to their trekking itinerary, if feasible. This is for the purpose of cancellation or postponement of flights between Kathmandu and Lukla, which can occur as a result of unpredictable mountain weather.
Should everything go smoothly and the weather be on our side, you’ll have the wonderful opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage of Kathmandu. Take this chance to discover ancient temples, monasteries, and other historic sites that make Nepal’s capital truly unique.
Your safety and experience are our top priorities—thank you for your understanding and flexibility.
Lukla flights are rerouted from Ramechhap/Manthali during peak season times of March, April, May, September, October, and November due to the high air traffic in Kathmandu. From Kathmandu to Manthali 4-5 hours drive, becomes the second option to the gateway to Lukla during these times.
Departure day, you will begin your trek early, between 13:00 to 15:00. After a guided shuttle drive to Manthali Airport in a shared tourist vehicle, you will catch a short 20-minute flight to the iconic Lukla Airport.
During the off season trek to the Everest region, Lukla flights basically operate from Kathmandu. Please note that airlines determine flight schedules and may differ based on the number of passengers in a particular month. On these days, you should wake up early morning, and drive 20 minutes from your hotel to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport, and a 35-40 minute panoramic flight to Lukla.
For those who would like to have a luxury, quick service, we can arrange the services of a direct helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla at an additional charge of USD 500-600 per person on a sharing basis of five passengers. which is the best decision than 4-5 hours long drive to Manthali Ramechhap from Kathmandu and without sleep well during the busy season, the months from March-May, October-November.
A day before your flight, prepare and pack your trekking gear. Arrive at Lukla’s Tenzing Hillary Airport early morning and have a nutritious breakfast. At Lukla, you will be greeted by porters who will carry your luggage, one porter between two trekkers.
The trek begins from Lukla to Phakding with an easy walk. The trail gently descends along the bank of Dudh Koshi River, and you will pass through Chheplung, which leads to the Everest base camp trail. Continuing ahead, you will pass through the small settlement of Ghat prior to arriving at Phakding, ready for the next day’s adventure to Namche Bazar.
We will set out with the sun and fill up on a hot, reviving breakfast, go on and have that second helping, because today’s trek is a dashing one. On Day Two of our trek to Everest Base Camp, we walk deep into a thick, enchanted forest, where filtered sunlight filters through towering ancient pines and hidden waterfalls whisper from shadows. Our route follows through the very heart of the Khumbu, over windy suspension bridges spanning the turbulent, glacier-fed streams of the Dudh Koshi River.
As we ascend, the air is crisper and the views more commanding. Snow-covered giants like Thamserku (6,623 meters) come into view on the horizon, promising the majesty yet to be experienced. We soon find ourselves within the boundaries of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and storehouse of untainted Himalayan wildness named after Everest itself.
With a well-deserved lunch break on the Jorsale, we continue, crossing one final set of bridges that seem to drop into the clouds. And then, as if the mountains are catching their breath, Everest appears in the distance, looming as if a divine sentinel. A turn around the bend leads us to the vibrant mountain town of Namche Bazaar, where we’ll make our camp for the evening. We shall sleep soundly in the most accessible lodge, full of refreshing mountain air and hope of better things to come the next day.
Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar – A Necessary Rest Day on the EBC Trek
As we continue our EBC Trek, going higher with each step, we need to let our bodies adapt to the lower air pressure. Day 3 of your 12 Days EBC Trek schedule, then, is all about acclimatization, and there’s no better place to do that than Namche Bazaar, the Khumbu region’s center.
Located in a natural amphitheater of high Himalayan peaks, Namche is more than a stopover, a vibrant high-altitude trade town with real character. Today, we have a well-deserved break from the climb to explore its charms and let our bodies acclimatize.
Walk along bustling streets filled with local bazaars and colorful prayer flags, or treat yourself at one of Namche’s renowned bakeries—fresh croissants and cappuccinos at 3,440 meters, anyone! Those interested in culture can stop by the Sherpa Culture Museum for an insight into the life and traditions of the mountain’s early explorers. If you’re up for a leisurely hike, take in the breathtaking panoramic views from Syangboche Airport or the fabled Hotel Everest View, where you may catch your first decent glimpse of Everest itself.
Whether you’re enjoying a pastry or taking in the history and the scenery, time in Namche Bazaar is well spent and obligatory. Tonight, we’ll enjoy our second night’s stay here, rested, acclimatized, and ready to go higher into the Himalayan heartland.
From Namche Bazaar to Tengboche Village – A Stunning Ascent on the EBC Trek
After refueling with a hearty breakfast in Namche Bazaar, we begin our fond memories on the EBC Trek by climbing consistently to the next installment of adventure on the EBC Trek 12 Days. We depart the thriving trading village and ascend to a ridge above Namche bearing a holy stupa commemorating the legendary Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, the pioneers of the landmark Everest summit.
From here, the vista unfolds to an awe-inspiring view of Himalayan titans. While Thamserku and Kangtega hold the skyline, the three summits of Kusum Kanguru add their theatrics to the skyline, lesser noted but no less regal.
Our route begins to trace the ridgeline gradually, gradually leading us back to the glacial-blue waters of the Dudh Koshi River. As we ascend higher, we trek through forests that are clothed in tall firs and vibrant rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower. In the spring season, these forests come alive with a rainbow of color—an absolute trekking highlight.
By mid-afternoon, we reach Tengboche, at 3,860 meters and among some of the most recognizable peaks of the region. After settling into a cozy teahouse, don’t miss visiting the renowned Tengboche Monastery. This sacred gompa, the biggest and most important of the Khumbu, offers a moment of calm and reflection, with Everest itself often visible in the distance.
Whatever the intense spiritual energy of the monastery, the serene loveliness of the rhododendron woods, or the unending pull of the mountains, today is a highlight day in your EBC Trek experience.
Himalayan Splendor Awaits at the EBC Trek Dingboche Trekking
Day 5 of your 12 Days EBC Trek is also a nature and culture trek, as we ascend further towards the holy heart of the Himalayas. Farewell, Tengboche, and follow the trail that winds its way through red rhododendron forest, where pine scent blends with the sweet mountain air. A suspension bridge in the distance stretches across the glistening turquoise waters of the Imja Khola River, and we continue steadily towards the mythical peaks that signify the EBC Trek.
While we walk along the high-altitude Pangboche and Somare villages, the gigantic silhouettes of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Holy mountain Tobuche Peak, and other Himalayan giants rise like ancient sentinels over the trail. These mountain giants increasingly become more and more overwhelming step by step, dominating the horizon with naked majesty.
As we reach Dingboche, we stroll through thousands of mani stones, each painted or inscribed with sacred Buddhist mantras. As a local tradition, we move to their left, the Mani stone on our right, giving respect to the religious practices of the Khumbu.
The final stretch of the hike follows a broad, open valley with irrigated potato and barley crops that survive in the challenging alpine climate. Toward the latter part of the evening, we reach Dingboche, a peaceful village under the lea of snow-covered ridges. We rest for two nights here and have ample time to relax, acclimatize, and prepare ourselves for the trails at higher altitudes ahead.
With its own dose of nature’s splendor and cultural depth, today’s trek is a jewel of the EBC Trek that will make you remember that getting to Everest Base Camp can be as beautiful as the destination.
Acclimatization in Dingboche – Breathe, Explore, and Take It All In on the EBC Trek
The more we approach greater altitudes on the EBC Trek, acclimatization is not only required but also important. Your 12 Days EBC Trek day 6 is spent acclimatizing to the height here in Dingboche (4,410m), a high-altitude village surrounded by stone walls and covered with terraced fields cut into the mountain face.
Following the golden rule of high-altitude trekking, “climb high, sleep low,” we will take an acclimatization hike to either Nagarjun Hill or Chukhung Village. Both offer breathtaking payoffs: panoramic vistas of the eastern Himalayas, including the intimidating faces of Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Touje Peak, Lobuche Peak, Cholatse, and even a glimpse of Island Peak. These day hikes are the ideal combination of challenge and stimulation, allowing you to acclimatize to the altitude while experiencing the sort of scenery most can only dream about.
Once you return to Dingboche, the rest of the afternoon is yours to relax. Grab a hot cup of tea or a fresh pastry from a local café or bakery; the comforts of civilization are especially sweet this far into the mountains. At night, the heavens are set aflame with color, and sunset over the rocky peaks and quiet stone houses of Dingboche is a memory that will be burned into your heart long after the trek is complete.
This day is a reminder, softly spoken, that the EBC Trek is not just about getting to Base Camp; it’s about the journey, the moments of calm, and the untouched beauty that surrounds you at every turn.
Dingboche to Lobuche Village – A Path of Peaks and Remembrance on the EBC Trek
With acclimatized and energized hearts, we begin another stunning chapter of the EBC Trek, ascending further up through one of the most rugged landscapes on Earth. Day 7 of your EBC Trek 12 Days begins with the trekking trail gently rising from Dingboche, traversing through ancient highland villages and seasonal yak herder camps that find shelter under high, brooding giants.
Well-known Himalayan peaks like Ama Dablam and Nuptse dominate the skyline, but look closely for lesser-known but equally beautiful heights of Kongma Tse and Taboche, little gems that add complexity to the already breathtaking scenery of the Everest district.
As we climb higher, the terrain turns gray, the atmosphere thins, and the sense of wonder increases. When we reach the tiny village of Dughla, we stand at a serene, windy ridge dotted by a cluster of memorial stupas, poignant reminders of those mountaineers who lost their lives on Everest. These mani stones (Buddhist Stupa) chortens covered in Buddhist prayer flags are a strong reminder of the mountain’s beauty and fury.
In full hearts and minds, we force our way up the Khumbu Glacier moraine, finally to reach the isolated outpost of Lobuche. Under ice-shrouded peaks and glacial serenity, the mountain village of this place offers us a hot meal at the teahouse as well as a well-deserved night’s rest.
Each step you make today is a step closer to the ultimate destination, Everest Base Camp, but it is also a reminder of what makes the EBC Trek so a rich experience: the views, the stories, and the spirit of those who have come before you on this path.
The Last Climb to Everest Base Camp – The Last Highlight on the EBC Trek
It is today. Day 8 of your 12 Days EBC Trek has brought us to the doorstep of the highest peak on Earth, Everest Base Camp (5,364m). There are fewer names that fire up the adventure-lover’s heart like Gorak Shep and Base Camp. These are not stopover destinations on the way; these are metonyms of willpower, of grit, and of human spirit driving past the boundary.
We begin the day traversing a rocky, alien landscape of glacial moraine and ice-sculpted ridges, groans and creaks being forced up out from underfoot as we stroll along the Khumbu Glacier. It’s raw country that reminds us to remember we’re really in the land of the giants. The tiny village of Gorak Shep, nestled on the periphery of the ice, serves us up welcome respite and a light lunch. But our minds are already fixed on what lies ahead.
With new energy, we walk the famous route to Everest Base Camp, the endpoint of the EBC Trek. Prayer flags fluttering in the icy wind, and every step brings us closer to history. And then it arrives. You stand at Everest Base Camp, where climbers prepare to climb the summit and enthusiasts from around the globe visit to touch greatness.
Stop here, halfway between broken icefalls, glacial peaks, and the grand ridges of Nuptse, Pumori, and Khumbutse. Drink in the size of where you are. This is not a place to arrive at, but rather a stopping place along the way in your life.
Having taken priceless pictures and memories, we return to Gorak Shep, where a hearty dinner and well-deserved rest are in store. The sense of accomplishment will linger long after sundown behind the Himalayas.
In the EBC Trek, this is not the end but the zenith of the soul.
Summit Sunrise at Kala Patthar – The Highlight of the EBC Trek
After the unforgettable success of reaching Everest Base Camp, don’t be surprised if you wake up today still in the euphoria of yesterday’s triumph. But the EBC Trek is not done yet, amazing you with marvels. Day 9 of your EBC Trek 12 Days adventure begins before sunrise, as we rise early to conquer a final summit, Kala Patthar (5,545m), the most iconic viewpoint in the Khumbu.
Even though the short climb is the best reward,
As the first light of morning spills over the Himalayas, Everest lays out its full glory, towering above a white sea of peaks, closer and clearer than ever before. From this 360-degree perspective, you’ll absorb a breathtaking panorama of giant Mt. Everest, 8,848.86 m. Lhotse, Nuptse, Lhola Pass, Ama Dablam, Pumari, Taboche, Lobuche Peak, Thamserku, and the glittering glaciers that cascade through the valley below. This is the view that one dreams of when one thinks of the Himalayas.
With your camera roll and heart full, heading back down to the same place of Gorak Shep for a well-deserved our breakfast. We then begin our return journey, tracing the same, now familiar and reassuring landscape that had stood in our path on the way up.
The descent to Pheriche is easier on the body but filled with reflection. Every rock, bridge, and pass now has a memory. By the time we reach our next cozy teahouse, a hot meal and warm bed will be well-earned luxury.
This is the emotional highlight of the EBC Trek, not only for the incomparable scenery, but for the subdued pride in having stood on holy ground at the rooftop of the world.
Backtracking Our Steps: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
With the light of dawn filtering through the mist-shrouded rhododendron forests, we set out for a serene trek-step by step-back to the comforting amenities of Namche Bazaar. The trail winds serenely through the verdant green alpine forests, gradually opening up sublime vistas of the Imja Khola river many feet below. At midday, we arrive at the serene village of Tengboche, home to the region’s most famous monastery. While cameras are held in reserve on the entranceway, the unyielding gravity of this sacred space will make its impression long beyond any photo to be obtained.
After lunch, above us are the Himalayan giants, and along ridges caressed by mountain winds, we ride along with rolling green hills uncoiling endlessly to the horizon. Down again into Namche we make our way back, and once more are welcomed by its rainbow-colored hillside town with thronging markets and warm, familiar atmosphere.
Tonight marks our penultimate evening on the EBC Trek 12 days adventure. Take your time to browse the charming shops, gather keepsakes of the journey, and enjoy one last evening in the heart of Sherpa country. As always, we’ll unwind in the comfort of a cozy teahouse, recounting memories and milestones of the unforgettable Everest Base Camp Trek.
Last Day of the EBC Trek – A Successful Descent to Lukla
As the dawn sun breaks on the last day of our EBC Trek, we bid farewell to the congested mountain town of Namche Bazaar and set off on our journey downhill into the Khumbu’s bosom. We go through scenic Sherpa towns once more, some of which are Phakding’s now familiar signposts, where our incredible journey began in nearly two weeks’ time.
This final section of the EBC Trek 12 days journey is just as stunning. Majestic suspension bridges take us over profound river gorges, with expansive views of verdant forested slopes and twisting Dudh Koshi River below—final glances at the untrammeled Himalayan beauty that has accompanied us at every turn.
After arrival at Lukla, the entrance to Everest, we celebrate the success of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Over a cozy farewell dinner, we reminisce, laugh, and share recollections of the trials and triumphs that marked our Everest Base Camp Trek. For those keen and adventurous visitors, the quirky character of Lukla is a must-experience—just be sure to get a good night’s sleep for the early flight back to Kathmandu.
Farewell to the Himalayas – Lukla to Kathmandu Departure
As the dawn creeps along the mighty Khumbu, our 12-day adventure to the EBC Trek comes to its sweetly melancholic conclusion. The chilly mountain air still burning in our lungs and the final sunrise wan along the Himalayan giants, we board the flight out of Lukla—our final chance to gawk at the breathtaking vistas of Everest and its giant neighbors from the air.
Back in the throbbing heart of Kathmandu, the contrast is striking. The buzz of the capital offers a different kind of adventure: vibrant bazaars, ancient temples, and top-notch restaurants invite exploration. Shopping for last-minute souvenirs or unwinding over a triumph dinner, this last night is the perfect time to reflect on the epic adventure you’ve just completed.
Should your travels continue tomorrow, we will provide a stress-free airport transfer for your onward flight. If you are venturing deeper into Nepal, we are here at your service to organize every aspect. Whatever the case, it has been an absolute honor to be your guide for the Everest Base Camp Trek—a test of determination, awe, and personal discovery. Farewell for now, NAMASTE, and safe travels.

Let’s make it happen. Together.
September, October, and November autumn season is the most appropriate time to take up the EBC Trek 12 Days with good weather and neither too cold nor hot. Temperature in the Sagarmatha region is around 6 – 22°C during the day and 2 -5°C during nighttime.
We suggest 12 Days EBC Trek in March to May, spring is the time when the landscape and Khumbu valleys are painted with colors and beauty. Deciduous trees get back their leaves, the meadow is filled with gorgeous flowers. Mother Nature will be at Fullest since the weather is still warm, between 14°C to -10°C in Khumbu.
June to August is when the rains are very heavy, especially in Kathmandu Valley. It is hot during these months, with temperatures of around 28°C in the hill regions, with chances of landslides and avalanches.
We recommend fewer the EBC Trek 12 days from December to February, winter season prevails, maintaining a low temperature of 0 degrees Celsius or lower. You can hike around the Sagarmatha region, but you have to keep yourself warm as the temperature will be low (min -5 ° C). But anyway, a pleasant time to spot the snow in front of you.
The iconic landmark of the EBC Trek is situated at the breathtaking elevation of 5364 m above sea level in the enchanting Sagarmatha National Park. It‘s roughly 200 to 300 km from the settled city of Kathmandu.
On our 12-day journey to the EBC Trek, we will reach the ultimate altitude of 5550 m at the summit of Kala Patthar while we spend the night at the highest elevation of Gorakshep at 5180 m. Within a day,
at the EBC Trek, we will transition from the 1300 m elevation of the capital to the 2800 m elevation of Lukla. The small mountain town is located 135 km away from Kathmandu, while only 65 km separates it. Everest Base Camp from Lukla to Lukla, we are going to do a total of 135 km distance and will be walking around 10 to 15 km each day.
Throughout our 12 days of EBC Trek, we will have 11 trekking days over the diverse landscape from dense green forest, and alpine meadows to glacial trails. There will be some very easy days, while on some days, it will be very demanding.
On the very first day of our EBC Trek 12 Days, we will have a nice start to our trip as we trek only for three hours on a gentle trail to Phakding. But on the ninth day of our trekking, we shall present the challenge of trekking up to the Kala Patthar and down to Pheriche, which will take us around 3-7 hours of walking.
The 12 day EBC Trek is perfect for one who wants a moderately challenging trekking experience in Nepal. The best thing about this trek is that you don’t need any technical knowledge, specialized gear, gear, or prior experience of high-altitude trekking or climbing. This is thus an excellent trip for experienced trekkers and novices alike.
Absolutely! The 12 Days EBC Trek is an exciting and unforgettable adventure for both veteran and first-time travelers in Nepal. Our trekking schedule is not demanding, with short walking periods and plenty of opportunity for successful acclimatization.
However, remember that for our EBC Trek, you still need to overcome more than 5000 m elevation, battle the steep slopes, climbs, and descents, and walk over broad scree, especially when going towards Namche Bazaar. Though from Lobuche, low-angled snow ridges with slopes up to 30 degrees lie ahead of you.
Therefore, good health, endurance, and strength of mind are a prerequisite for this trek.
Yes, we won’t be reaching the height of 8848.86 m on this journey, EBC Trek, but still, almost 5500 m altitude is not to be taken lightly. It comes with the disadvantages of fickle weather, bumpy tracks, and spartan environments.
Therefore, we suggest that all our members of EBC Trek do regular exercises and physical training at least 4 to 6 weeks before their dates of travel.
In order to familiarize yourself with the high-altitude trek, we suggest that you go for a short trek or hiking adventure in your native country. If you cannot, prepare a light backpack, start walking around the park, and up and down stairs.
In addition to that, jogging, running, squats, push-ups, pull-ups, and swimming are some of the workouts that you can employ to enhance endurance and cardio fitness.
To EBC Trek, with a calm and optimistic mindset, we also suggest you practice deep breathing exercises in combination with meditation for half an hour.
If you are longing to view the Mother of Mountains, Everest, up close, then Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar are your destination of choice. And to get to these iconic destinations, there are endless possibilities varying from a plain indulgent helicopter tour to the demanding trekking path following the footsteps of Hillary and Tenzing.
You can have a day side trip by Helicopter from the EBC Trek literally from the clouds and stop at Kala Patthar and Hotel Everest View for a fabulous view of Everest and sister peaks.
Or EBC Trek, you can avoid the Lukla flight and trek from Jiri to Phakding, passing through some rural villages of Nepal.
Altitude sickness is feasible on the 12 days EBC Trek. We are not saying that all of the trekkers will be suffering from this sickness. Not every one of the members who traveled with us before has shown the signs of altitude sickness, yet there have been a few. Just like the Himalayan weather, altitude sickness also cannot be predicted.
The chance is you will feel only the minor symptoms of altitude sickness (i.e. Nausea, headache, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, shortness of breath, loss of sleep, and appetite). You need to take these symptoms very seriously and let our guide know if you feel them.
As per the suggestion of our guide, you can take Diamox. It is a diuretic drug that will cure your condition, but ensure that you drink plenty of water and urinate frequently.
Do utilize the acclimatization days to your benefit and trek slowly at your own pace. Trekking is not a competition, even though it is an experience you would want to remember for a lifetime.
For the EBC Trek, we reserve a 3-star category hotel in Kathmandu, where same gender members will be sharing a twin room for the entire duration. For the trekking experience, the best available tea house or Sherpa people’s mountain hut shall be your night destination.
In Kathmandu, since there are diverse options, a complimentary breakfast will be offered, whereas on the trek, breakfast, lunch, dinner, with seasonal fruits daily evening will be offered to every member of the group.
Sherpa lodges have various options to eat during your EBC Trek, a three time meal apart from Dal bat Tarkari. Like fried eggs, boiled and scrambled eggs, oat porridge, garlic soup, fried noodles, momos, and various fried rice, pizza, pasta, and potatoes iteams etc.
As your agent and your friend in Nepal, we will arrange a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla to Kathmandu. The Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC Trek) will arrange private transportation for airport to hotel to airport transfers. If there is a flight redirection to Ramechhap, you will be escorted by a private car to the town for an internal flight to Lukla.
For staying connected with our family and friends, you can buy an NCELL or NTC network SIM card with your documents and photographs. All the national cellular networks offer 4G coverage throughout Nepal. Recharge your balance and call *1415# for NTC, *17123# for Ncell to activate your internet data package.
Wi-fi internet connection is also available in the entire Everest region because of the successful efforts of Everest Link, which are now uploading live stream videos of Everest Base Camp on YouTube. They have prepaid wi-fi cards with passwords, which can be purchased in any tea house or lodge. Apart from that, the mountain lodges also provide WIFI services, which can cost you USD 5 for 24 hours. 11 USD, which is 1400 Rupees for 48 hours from Dingboche village. Charging of your gadgets is also readily available in your room in most of the tea houses.
In some shelters, you may have to charge in the communal dining area. The additional fee depends on what gadget you are charging. For example, charging your power bank will probably be much more expensive than charging your phone.
The EBC Trek and all high-altitude adventures in Nepal require the purchase of travel insurance because the Himalayas are a remote and challenging place. The Everest Base Camp trail cuts across an unfriendly landscape, mountainous paths, and isolated areas that may experience weather variation at a very fast rate. Travel insurance is also not a luxury but an essential safety measure since there is no road access to most segments of the trail, and thus emergency medical assistance may be unavailable.
The Everest Base Camp trek exposes the trekkers to the risks of sickness, injuries, illness, or the delay caused by extreme weather conditions. Helicopter evacuation is the only possible rescue in severe cases and evacuations could be very expensive without insurance since it could cost thousands of dollars. A comprehensive travel insurance cover incorporates medical emergency, evacuation, trip disruption, and cancellation cover, thus giving the trekkers time to have the experience and not worry about money.
High-altitude cover is one of the most crucial parts of the travel insurance for the EBC Trek. Most of the common insurance policies will cover things up to 3,000 meters, which will not be adequate during the Himalayan trekking. Considering that the trek to the Everest Base Camp is up to 5,364 meters and the points such as Kala Patthar are the highest at 5,548 meters, one should ensure that their insurance covers the trek to a minimum of 5,600 meters. Failure to cover this can make your insurance invalid at the time that you need it the most.
The evacuation of the helicopters is essential when trekking to the Everest Base Camp. The Everest area lacks roads; hence, the only lifeline to take the trekkers who experience severe cases of altitude sickness, injuries or have life-threatening illnesses is by helicopters. Helicopter rescue is generally costly, ranging between USD 2,500 to USD 8,000, which is payable instantly when one is not insured. These costs are covered by a good travel insurance policy, which will provide evacuation and transfer to Kathmandu medical facilities in a short time.
EBC Trek is a physically demanding activity where there is exposure to high altitude which predisposes the person to the development of altitude related diseases, respiratory infections, falls, and dehydration. Medical services- particularly in the private or international hospitals- are costly in terms of quality. The best travel insurance policies include treatment under an emergency, hospitalisation, outpatient care, drugs and recovery, where trekkers are able to focus on their wellbeing without considering the cost factor.
The policies specifically designed to cover high-altitude trekking are provided by several foreign insurance companies, such as World Nomads, Allianz, IMG Global, Covermore, True Traveller, and SafetyWing (with altitude extensions). Some of the coverage limits, altitude, helicopter evacuation and altitude restrictions differ depending on the provider, and one should thoroughly look at the policy terms to know the components. The process of choosing an insurer that has been involved in the Himalayan rescue efforts will guarantee better coordination during emergencies.
The trekking agencies like the Hill Sherpa Trekking need to be provided with a comprehensive insurance before travelling, such as the name of the insurer, the policy number, the emergency contact hotline and the confirmation of the high altitude and helicopter evacuation insurances. This information is presented to the guides as they take it with them on the trek because, in high-altitude scenarios, it is important to have quick communication with insurance companies.
In the case of the EBC Trek insurance is not an added benefit, but rather a safety net. Be it your first time or you have visited the Everest Base Camp as an adventurer, a good insurance cover will guarantee you a worry free journey and cover against uncertainties. It is with the correct policy that you can wholly appreciate the adventure, culture and accomplishment of being at the foot of the tallest mountain on earth.
Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit and Sagarmatha National Park Entrance Permit will be purchased in the last village of Lukla on your behalf by our guides for the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Yes, you definitely can enjoy vegetarian meals on your EBC Trek. In fact, on the EBC Trek 12 days, most teahouses and lodges along the way offer a wide range of well-balanced and healthy vegetarian dishes. We actually recommend eating vegetarian on the Everest 12 Days Trek in an effort to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. As fresh meat is not easy to bring to high elevations, following the vegetarian diet is a healthier and better choice. Dal Bhat (Nepali traditional rice and lentil), vegetable noodle, and potato food are good and nourishing foods that will keep your energy up when trekking up to Everest Base Camp.
