When dreaming about a holiday in the mountains, many are subject to doubts: Will I be able to? Well, doubt no more, allow us to present our 12-day Ghorepani Trek with Mardi Himal Base Camp trip. This is a very interesting, short, and very affordable excursion and adventure tour made just for you.
The Ghorepani Mardi Himal Trek trip has everything: sun-drenched high, dazzlingly beautiful mountain peaks, waterfalls in deep gorges, leisurely walks along the beautiful park, the coziness of the mountain house, and the serenity of quiet evenings.
Within a short 12-day trekking trip, we have dared to combine two exceptionally beautiful destinations: Ghorepani with Poon Hill and the outstanding Mardi Himal Base Camp.
First, our Ghorepani Trek with Mardi Himal Base Camp journey will lead us to the stunning Gurung hamlet of Ghorepani which sits at an elevation of 2874 meters. Placed just 270 km farther to the west side of Kathmandu, the village serves as an entrance gate to Poon Hill that rises to 3210 m.
The Viewpoint extraordinarily opens up the priceless beauty of Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna massive range, Tukuche, Nilgiri, Barah Shikhar, and Fishtail.
Next, we will journey to the Mardi Himal Base Camp, which looms at 4550 m inside the enchanting Annapurna Natural Reserve to the southeast flank of the Annapurna Base Camp.
Established in 2012, the Mardi Himal base camp route not only runs through the wide valley but follows a high ridge, offering breathtaking vistas at every turn. The base camp will give you the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the majestic Machhapuchhare/Fishtail at 6993 m.
Thus, our Ghorepani trek with Mardi Himal Base Camp journey within just 12 days will take us both through the well-trodden Annapurna trail to the more secluded route, allowing you to witness the contrast between urban progress and the serenity of the wilderness.
On the other hand, you will also get to meet the diverse Gurungs, Magars, Chhetris, and Ghale tribes along the way. The Gurungs stand out for their courageousness, honesty, and welcoming nature. You will get to experience the tranquil coexistence of Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism, which enriches the cultural tapestry of the area.
Overall, our moderate-level Ghorepani trek with Mardi Himal Base Camp journey is a brief duration tour targeted for those who desperately need to escape for a while from the concrete jungle of the cities and dwell in the great mountain vastness.

We have chosen Pokhara as the starting place for our journey, where you will travel on the road from Kathmandu. From Pokhara, you will have to drive for a while to Birethanti and then begin the walk to Ulleri.
The first phase of the trip ends at Ghorepani Village with the morning hike to Poon Hill. Then, diverting the step via Landruk, you will move forward to Mardi Himal Base Camp via the forest and High Camp.
The journey then comes to an end with a brief trek to Siding Village and a drive back to Pokhara.
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the capital of Nepal, a country renowned for its towering mountains. Our Hill Sherpa representative will meet you at the Airport gate and travel you to your lodging in the city.
Once you have had some time to relax, our guide will hold a briefing about our Ghorepani Mardi Himal Trek itinerary. After that, you may wander Kathmandu and take in the lively nightlife of the city.
Early morning, you will be picked up at the hotel and driven by a tourist bus towards Kathmandu. Our twisting road will traverse through Thankot along the wide Prithvi Highway towards Trishuli Bazaar.
The road now mingles with the Mugling-Narayanghat Highway that will guide us to Bandipur. Annapurna, Langtang, Fishtail, Manaslu, and Ganesh will peep through the clouds.
Eventually, Lake Begnas and Rupa Tal will come into view signaling we have reached Pokhara.
After Pokhara, our private four-wheel drive will direct us along a remarkable countryside road towards Naya Pool via Naudanda. The Bhurungdi and Modi Rivers meet at this point. We will cross the merging point of these two rivers and drive past the tiny hamlets of Matathanti, Ramgai, and Sudame as we proceed to Birethanti.
After a quick break, it’s time to carry our backpacks and walk through the paved track that flows through a refreshing forest. The course now rises to Hille and Tikhedhunga at 1515 m. We will mostly follow the off-road until Tirkhedhunga.
The path now is slightly more difficult as we now make our way up to Ulleri. We will walk across two steel bridges, after the second bridge, the 3500 stone steps take us 500 m up to Ulleri- Magar settlement.
The Himchuli and Annapurna South sparkle in the distance and it is pretty enjoyable to watch the setting sun over these peaks.
After Ulleri, our climbing adventure continues towards Banthanti. Now, the strenuous ascent is behind us, and we are under the cooling shadow of a deciduous forest. As we traverse a few kilometers of this enchanting rhododendron haven, we will arrive at Ghorepani which means horse water.
It is a classic intermediate station where we may meet large caravans of mules with their distinctive bells and shiny bridles. Already the distinctive peaks of Himchulli (6441 m), South Annapurna (7219 m), Annapurna III, and the unique fishtail profile of Machhapuchhare (6993 m) can be seen soaring into the sky.
Today also mostly ascend up but not like Ulleri steps. and so hot too. That means mostly walking in the jungle with shadows path.
Finally, Our destination is Ghorepani which has an elevation of 2860 meters. with will see amazing views including Dhaulagiri which is 8,163 m. Tukuche Peak, Nilghiri, Bahara Shikhar, Annapurna Fang, Dhampus peak etc.
While the world is still in slumber, we will set off on our ascent to the viewpoint of Poon Hill. Within 45 to one hour, we will be at the tip of Poon Hill.
We will gaze in awe as we witness the sun bathing the snow-draped mountains of Annapurna I (8091 m), Tukuche Peak (6920 m), Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Annapurna III (7855 m), Machhapuchhare, Nilgiri (6940 m), Annapurna II (7937 m), Varaha Shikhar (7847 m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), and Annapurna South (7219 m).
After this priceless moment, we will head down to Ghorepani, load up our backpacks, and start walking towards Tadapani. First, our track smoothly goes down, then it suddenly rises for about an hour leading us to the top of 3090 m Deurali Pass.
After the Pass, a thick delightful forest will rise sharply for about 30 minutes thus ending at Tadapani.
After our enjoyable night at Tadapani, we will now set off with our charming descent along a picturesque trail that winds through a lively rhododendron forest.
In just a few moments, we will find ourselves at Bhainsi Kharka, a tranquil pasture where buffalo graze peacefully. Following another hour or two of walking amidst the lush foliage of dense rhododendrons and soaring bamboo, we will finally arrive at Ghandruk.
The enormous Annapurna South now lies as an overriding backdrop to the charming little Gurung Village and there are also great views of Fishtail Mountain, Gangapurna, and Himchuli.
After the view, we will go down steeply for a while bypassing the Annapurna conservation office and museum till we reach Modi Khola. Now a gentle track will lead us to Kyuni from where an hour of sharp climbing will direct us to Landruk.
Our hike now goes through the incredibly beautiful rhododendron forests. The ladders wind in and out, up through the forest, which is extremely dense. Here there are streams and large boulders, and the forests have a distinctive look that makes them seem almost magical.
Along the way, we will pass a very small temple, which is a few steps above the path. We cannot enter the temple but can peek in through a small fence.
In the afternoon we will reach Forest Camp, which is among the Mardi trek’s largest camps. Here are many tea houses close together with toilet and bathing facilities, hot water, and wifi.
With a thrilling journey ahead, we will rise early and ascend through a magnificent forest, where the air is filled with the scent of pine, conifer, and the vibrant colors of rhododendrons.
After crossing a scenic ridge, we will arrive at Low Camp, located at 2990 meters, where we can relax over lunch and explore the beautiful surroundings.
After our break, we will climb for two more hours to Badal Danda, which stands at 3250 meters. The dense trees have now gradually given way to patches of resilient bushes. We will continue our ascent for a few more hours until we finally reach the High Camp.
There are several small lookout hills here that are a mere 30-second walk uphill from the teahouses, from which there is an unspoiled 360-degree view of Fish Tail, Singu Chuli, Annapurna III, and Gangapurna.
We will get up early and hike further along the ridge, towards Fishtail Hill. It is now well up, and the air has become thinner so that it can be felt in the lungs. On the route, we can meet both grazing yaks and flocks of sheep and goats, and there are stops along the way where we can enjoy a hot cup of mint tea.
The rising narrow track now begins to smooth out, leading us gently toward the inviting Mardi Himal base camp. It is the best vantage point of the route and the absolute highlight of the trip with the most incredible view of Fishtail Mountain, Mardi Himal (5587 m), Himchuli (6441 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), Baraha Shikhar (7647 m), Annapurna I (8091 m), Singu Chuli (6501 m), Tent Peak (5695 m).
We will now turn around and walk downward to High Camp to eat lunch. After lunch, we will continue down, along the same ridge that we came up. We finish at Low Camp, which we passed on the way up.
Our encounter with the majestic Peaks is coming to an end. From Low camp, we will lose altitude, going down through the scenic track to Siding Village.
We will now hire a local jeep to journey us back to Pokhara. The road ahead is a mix of gravel and bumps, continuing this way until we reach onto the highway taking us back to our hotel in Pokhara.
Departing from the enchanting paradise of Pokhara, we will travel back to Kathmandu in a cozy tourist bus. After arrival, there is a drive back to the hotel in Kathmandu, and the rest of the evening is for free use and sightseeing in Kathmandu.
We will collect you at the hotel and drive to the airport. Time for the farewell to Nepal and the journey home.
We also operate private trips.
