Our journey of the Khopra trek commences with a road journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then to Siwai village. The trekking adventure then kicks off to Ghandruk escorting us towards Tadapani and Dobato.
After climbing the Muldai View Point, the route directs us to Bayeli, and Chistibung ultimately leading us to the top of Khopra Danda. Taking a different path, we will deviate to Swanta village from where we will walk to Ghorepani and engage in the morning hike up to Poon Hill.
The classic Annapurna trail will then intersect with Hile and Birethanti, from where another road trip will take us back to Kathmandu via Pokhara.
Welcome onto the tarmac of Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan airport. Our Nepalese team from Hill Sherpa will await you at the exit of the airport with flower garlands. After a warm welcome, our team will accompany you to the hotel.
Grab some rest in your room and recuperate from the possible jetlag. In the evening, you will meet our tour guide who will be your loyal companion throughout the Khopra trek itinerary.
He will explain to you about the Khopra Trek 12 days program we have carefully planned for you. You can do the last-minute shopping if you miss any gear.
Please grab a shut eye early tonight as we have to engage in a long drive to Pokhara tomorrow.
Today we will fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara International Airport approximately 25 minutes with amazing mountain views.
After landing at Pokhara airport, we will transfer to the hotel,
From Pokhara, the 40 km-long section of the Pokhara-Baglung Rajmarg Road will escort us to Nayapul via Naudanda. After 20 minutes, the large town of Birethanti will be reached beautifully placed at the edge of the Modi Khola. The further short journey will take us to Siwai where we will rest our legs for a bit and eat some lunch.
Now, carrying the backpack, we will begin the walking part of our Khopra Trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill with the goal of reaching the Ghandruk Village.
Climbing little by little, we will reach the 1685 m high Kimche village from where the road now rises vertically by a succession of steps to Ghandruk, the big village of Annapurna and the land of the fearless Gurungs. The Gangapunra, Annapurna South, Himalchuli, and Fishtail (Machhapuchhare) will be beyond the horizon of the village.
After a good plate of breakfast, we will continue with the climb through a beautiful rhododendron plantation. The tall trees provide a cool shadow and walking under it is pretty amazing.
Before the light fades, we will be at our lodge in Tadapani. The evening will be spent looking at the village and its surroundings. If you want to watch the sunrise, set your alarm at around 5 am.
The phenomenal panorama of early sunrise over Annapurna II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, and Fishtail will be a beautiful start to a beautiful day. After we leave our lodge, the path straight runs into a forest which later opens up into a buffalo meadow.
The path now rises into a slope towards the 2970 m Meshar Danda then 3140 m high Isharu. The climb is tough so we will pause here for lunch. An approximate 300 m rising trail will then take us to Dobato.
Our day starts with an early rise and walk up for about 30 minutes to the top of the Muldai View Point. The stupendous spectacle opens up before us from Fishtail to Dhaulagiri and the entire beautiful snowy Annapurna range.
The wonderful view is then followed by a downhill walk to our hotel. After a cup of tea and a plate of breakfast, we will take an interesting hike to the Secret Lake.
The track now quickly descends through the murky rhododendron forest and again climbs up to Bayeli. The Dhaulagiri is at glory in the sky of the village.
From Bayeli, we will go down once again through the forest to the lower Chistibung ending our walk. We will have a chance to see the Himalayan Danphe pheasants.
The path after the lower Chistibung now advances upward toward Upper Chistibung enriched with grasslands for the Himalayan Thar.
The intent slow climb will eventually take us to the Khopra Danda where we will saluted by the astounding display of the southern slopes of the Annapurna, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and Kali Gandaki river.
The early morning sight of the mountains under the first soft orange light is pretty idyllic. After the wonderful views, it’s time to fill our bellies with tasty breakfast. The walking track once again advances down through the Chistibung hamlet guiding us forward to Swanta village.
Our journey today takes us down to a tiny river, and where there is a river there is a crossing over the hanging steel bridge. The track after the bridge leads us to the sharp slope finally ending at Chitre.
The track from here broadens guiding us through Tatopani (Hot Water) to Ghorepani.
After a hammering wake-up call before dawn, we will climb the panoramic peak of Poon Hill. The light slowly paints the Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Annapurnas, Manaslu, Shikhar, Nilgiri, Himchuli, Barahi, Lamjung, and Tukuche peaks in their soft orange hue.
After Poon Hill, there is breakfast at Ghorepani, after which the hike will take us through the deep jungle of rhododendron towards Nagthanti. The forward forest trail then further takes us through Banthanti and Ulleri. Climbing down the famous 3200 stone steps, we will walk down to Tikhedhunga and to Hile.
The walkway from Hile plunges to Gurung Villages of Sudame, Ramgai, and Matathanti finally taking us to Nayapool via Birethanti enriched with the tropical climate.
The road from the Nayapool Village drives us alongside the good road and village where our car will drive us back to Pokhara. The afternoon is for you to enjoy on your own but we recommend you go on a boating trip over Lake Phewa, Bishwo Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda), and Devi’s Falls.
The day can also be spent relaxing by the cozy Lake Side, eating a good piece of chocolate cake, or simply lingering at the beautiful lake and the mountains behind.

Differing from the other high-altitude treks in Nepal, spring and autumn along with winter seasons are the favorable seasons for undertaking the Khopra Trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill tour.
From September to November, we have an intermediate period of fall characterized by cooler temperatures, and dry days and nights. So it is easier to spot wildlife, get the best bewitching views of the mountains, and enjoy outdoor activities.
From March to May, spring vegetation paints the landscape green and liven the valleys of Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Annapurna with color and life. If you like to enjoy nature, this is the best moment, because the temperature remains mild, between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius.
The cold period spans between December to February, during which the temperature is low. In subtropical areas of Kathmandu, and Pokhara, the mercury in the thermometer can drop to 0 degrees Celsius. While in Khopra Danda, Poon Hill, the thermometer can indicate the drop in temperature to 16.5 to -5 degrees Celsius. It is a good time to enjoy the moderate snow at Khopra Ridge, Poon Hill and Ghorepani.
From June to August, the rains are very heavy, especially in Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara. At this time, the mercury rises to around 28 degrees Celsius while the prevalence of leeches, mosquitoes, and insects can make the trek very unpleasant.
We have merged the two brilliant and exhilarating treks into one and have crafted a fascinating 12-day Khopra trek itinerary that will not only take us to the Khorpa Danda but also to the outstanding Viewpoint of Poon Hill.
During the 12 days, we will travel a total stretch of approximately 90 to 100 km- a short section of the sensational Annapurna trail. Pokhara is the central city to begin the Khopra Trek 12 Days adventure which is 203.6 km farther from Kathmandu.
The tiny Siwai Village, 47 km far from Pokhara is the beginning point of our trek. Due to the straightforward nature of the Khopra trek route, we will comfortably cover a distance of 15 to 18 km each day.
We will sleep at the 3650 m height of Khopra Ridge, which is not only the highest resting site but also the tallest point of our entire Khopra Trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill journey.
We have created our Khopra Trek 12 Days itinerary with 9 days allocated for easy walking through the delightful romantic path. Most days, we will have a leisurely pace compassing an average of 4 to 6 hours of duration.
On day 3, we will only walk for approximately an hour or two as we commence our journey from Siwai to Ghandruk. Toward the end of the trek, we will have to walk for about 7 hours as we make our way from Swanta Village to Ghorepani.
The Khopra trek with Ghorepani poon hill tour is an open and mediocre trek accessible to all skill levels. The route has easy scrambling, broad scree with low angled ridges at angles up to 30 degrees.
Climbing ropes are unnecessary, and previous climbing or trekking background is not essential. The trek is concise and mainly focuses on a nature walk in the stunning landscape along the rarely visited trail.
Additionally, the average height of this trek is under 4000 m. we have also concentrated on an unhurried walk with the paced climb, and descents to help you acclimate efficiently till you reach the highest point of 3650 m at Khopra ridge.
We have intended to make our Khopra trek reachable to everyone who loves to travel and who is naturally curious. Since the maximum height we will reach is only 3650 m, this is reasonable for a first-time visit to be among the Himalayas.
With a transient stay at the community shelters along the track, this program is pretty comfortable where you can enjoy the visuals of the high Hills, Himalayas and completely recharge.
With an expert guide leading the way and porters to carry your belongings, this journey is ideal for families, children, and the elderly. The tour is all about trekking where technical climbing skills have no place.
Although our Khopra trek itinerary is easy, but often our participants have complained of tired legs and lack of stamina when reaching to the top of the Khopra Ridge. Therefore, advanced training for the hike is worth doing so you can get aesthetic and moral pleasure during the adventure.
We like to suggest some recommendations on how to prepare for the hike:
For a discerning traveler like you, there is also an alternate approach to the Khopra trek with the Ghorepani Poon Hill tour. Our Khopra trek itinerary takes you first to the Khopra Danda followed by the latter stage leading you to Ghorepani and Poon Hill.
The other option we are suggesting to you will first usher you to Ghorepani and Poon Hill with a drive from Pokhara to Ulleri and march to Ghorepani. The trail then follows Dobato, ultimately escorting you to Khopra Danda.
Additionally, we have removed a day trip to Lake Khayer at an elevation of 4500 m to make it accessible to everyone. If you are interested, you can add an extra day for a climbing hike to Lake Khayer from Khopra Danda.
For more challenges in your Khopra trek, you can also integrate the climb with two extra Dandas/ridges: Mohare Danda and Dhunge Gade. After you depart from Poon Hill, you will diverge onto a narrow track towards Mohare Danda (3300 m) and then to Dhunge Gade Danda (3,081 m).
You will then overcome the Hampal Pass at 3098 m, and proceed to Nangi joining the road to Pokhara.
In most of the treks in Nepal, the altitude becomes the primary risk factor. However, our Khopra Trek 12 Days journey only reaches a height of 3600 m, thus minimizing the chances of altitude sickness. Even so, the altitude sickness is not entirely absent.
Not only altitude is to blame for this sickness in the mountains but common colds, dehydration, insomnia, overwork, and drinking alcohol or coffee also contribute to its development.
Most of our past travelers have only experienced mild symptoms such as lethargy, malaise, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, poor sleep, drowsiness, and dizziness.
If the further rise to the trek is discontinued, and the altitude is reduced, these symptoms disappear within a few hours. Additionally, intake of Diamox will help reduce the effects of altitude sickness.
It is important to have good and properly carried out acclimatization, and moderate alternation of ascents to heights and descents to the overnight location.
During our Khopra Trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill tour, we will travel in agreeably comfortable private transport. A private car will pick you up and drop you off at TIA while a tourist bus will take you to Pokhara from Kathmandu and Kathmandu to Pokhara at the end of the journey.
Again a car will be used to drive to Naya Pul from Pokhara and from Birethanti o Pokhara. An option of direct transfer to Ghandruk from Pokhara is also available in a jeep.
In Kathmandu and Pokhara, we will stay in comfortable conditions, standard accommodation in double rooms. During the trek on foot, we will stay in lodges, and shelters for tourists, which have a public shower and toilet (sometimes also in the room).
Breakfast is included in hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara. On the track, we will provide breakfast and dinner in the lodge we stay and lunch in the lodge en route.
The food menu in all lodges is quite dissimilar (different types of eggs, pasta, soups, potatoes, pizza, rice). An interesting feature is that the same dishes in different lodges can be prepared differently and taste completely different. Our team will offer you fresh fruits daily every night after dinner.
The telephony service will be available throughout the Khopra trek via the NCELL and NTC networks. You can conveniently purchase their SIM Cards in Kathmandu or Pokhara after you provide your passport copy and a photo. Both networks provide access to the 4G network for high-speed internet.
Continuous electricity is available in all the village shelters but the rooms of the shelter may not have the appropriate outlet. You can bring the suitable adapter and charge your gadgets in dining hall though at an extra charge.
Wifi will be at your disposal in all the accommodations, with rates ranging from NPR 300 to NPR 500 per hour. Alternatively, you may use the mobile internet services by selecting the viable data package.
The Khopra trek itinerary takes you through the seldom-visited trekking section of the Annapurna region for which the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) and Annapurna Conservation Area permit (ACAP) are mandatory. Our guide will acquire them either at Kathmandu or Pokhara.
(Note: first aid kits & medicine will be carried with our company’s guide during the trekking However, we recommend you bring your personal first-aid kit)

Lake Khayer is elevated at 4500 m and a trip to the lake requires approximately 8 hours from Khopra Danda, which could be challenging for new travelers. Since we want to make this trip favorable for all, we have eliminated the option of Lake Khayer. If you are interested, we can arrange for your trip to the lake.
It is not much publicized like other trips in Annapurna however the word of mouth from the participants and their promotion in social media has been increasing its name recently.
Anyone taking part in this trek is required to have insurance because unexpected costs may arise anytime during your travel. Such as medical problems, accidents, air travel, helicopter rescue, and travel expenses. Please talk to your insurance company for the coverage to the altitude of 4000 m.
Besides Kathmandu, you can withdraw money from ATMs in Pokhara, Naya Pul, and Tikedhunga.
Our tour leader and our team in Kathmandu will discuss the matter first and if agreed, our guide may add another day and take the interested members to the Lake. In the meantime, you can travel through the Khopra Ridge and its village.
