The Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek is categorized as the Great Himalayan Trail (GHT), which crosses from east to west and is considered the longest and highest trail in Nepal.
Tilman Pass is named after a great European explorer and climber, Major Harold William Bill Tilman. He was the first one to reach this Pass in 1949 and has opened this trek to many new adventurous explorers. He opened many new Passes in the 1930s that we still use today.
Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek is the closest to Kathmandu Valley; it is connected with Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, Jugal Rural Municipality, and Gosainkund Rural Municipality of Rasuwa. A bit adventurous and challenging to cross, this Pass is a beautiful, charming, and memorable destination for those seeking solitude in Mother Nature’s purest form.
On our Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek, we will follow the legendary route once taken by this great explorer. To this day, this legendary route is rarely used, void of crowds of tourists, allowing you to exclusively lose yourself in unspoiled nature.
On this Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek, we will also traverse across the Langtang Valley and Kenjin Gumpa. We will also hike to the high-altitude lakes of Teen Pokhari and Panch Pokhari. The region is famous for red pandas and snow leopards along with Himalayan attractions such as Langtang Himal, Dorjerakpa, Nayakanga, Yala Peak, Ganesh Himal, Purbagechu, Jugalyangri, Gharchen Peak and Gaurishankar.

We then move forward to Langshisa Kharka and trek to Moraine Camp. Crossing the Tilman Pass, we head to Teen Pokhari and Panch Pokhari. Then, heading back to Chautara, traversing through Pauwabass, Kami Kharka, and Sano Okhreni, we will drive back to Kathmandu.
Namaste! Our tour guide will receive you and take you to the hotel in Kathmandu. In your free time, you can walk around the city’s colorful streets, visit some fine restaurants, and taste authentic Nepali cuisine.
We will spend the whole day on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. We will visit Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Durbar Square of the capital. If time permits, we may even take a walk in the Garden of Dreams of Thamel.
In the evening, our tour leader guide will provide a brief presentation about our itinerary for the Tilman Pass trek. Sleep early for the early morning drive to Syabrubesi.
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will drive by private jeep to the small town of Syabrubesi. We will drive along the amazing Trishuli River and stop for lunch at Trishuli Bazaar. Then the road will take us to Dhunche. From here, the path continues downhill, and after an hour, we arrive at Syabrubesi, where we will check in at the guesthouse and rest overnight.
From Syabrubesi, our trek to Tilman Pass begins officially. We will first pass over the Bhote Koshi River over a suspension bridge. Then, we will walk for two hours to reach Langtang Khola. Crossing the Khola via another suspension bridge, we will then climb steeply for an hour to reach Rimche.
Half an hour more walk, and we will be at Lama Hotel- a small hamlet located in the middle of the forest and our overnight destination.
We will resume our trek and climb into the forest from Lama Hotel. Then, we will traverse Gumanchok and Ghoratabela. From here on, the path widens, and the forest gives way to shrubs.
We will ascend steadily towards Thangshyap and Ghumba, and finally, we will arrive at Langtang village.
Today, we will only walk for 4 to 5 hours, which we have deliberately reduced to acclimate at an altitude of more than 3500 m. we will climb for a while to reach the villages of Muna, Singdun, and Yamphu.
Now, we have a relatively easy climb ahead towards Lajar Chu and Kyanjing Gumpa. The mountains of Langtang Lirung and Kinshung will open in front of us.
We have dedicated this day to exploring Kyanjin Gumpa. Depending on the weather conditions and your level of fitness, two options are possible:
Climb to Kyanjin Ri, where we can witness the magnificent views of Langtang Valley, Langtang Lirung, Yansa Tsenji, and Gangchempo.
Or, ascend to Tsergo Ri, from where we have a magnificent panorama of Yala Peak, Yansa Tsenji, Langshisa Ri, Gangchempo, Ponggen Dokpu, and Naya Kanga Peak.
From here on, we will leave the accommodation of a comfortable lodge and spend nights in camps. After breakfast, we will climb steadily along a narrow valley. The Tilman pass appears in the distance with its multiple prayer flags. We will arrive at the entrance to the Langshisa valley shortly. Here, we will set up the camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Moraine Camp is not that far from Langshisha Kharka. But the trail is not that easy; we have to overcome many rivers, streams, and some rocky steep sections. From time to time, you can come across many yaks grazing around. After arriving in the Moraine, we will set up the camp and prepare for the big day tomorrow.
We have quite a challenging hike and climb today. We will cross the mighty Tilman Pass today and descend to Yak Kharka. The path towards the Pass can be really slippery due to snow and ice. In addition, we have to overcome the moraine slope and pass over the glacier.
Our guide may use a fixed rope to ascend the Pass depending on the situation. Once at the top of the Pass, we can watch the Dorje Lakpa, Domalad, and Gangchempo in their full splendor.
After some photographic sessions, we will hike down towards Tilman Base Camp. Like the ascend, the descent is also very steep, so the use of ropes, jumar, and crampons may be needed.
After having a hot meal in the Base Camp, we now descend towards Yak Kharka, where we will once more set up the camp and rest.
It’s time to trek to another highlight of our Tilman PAss trek: Teen Pokhari (three lakes). The day hike will be mostly downhill, overcoming mounds of loose rock and ice, so make sure to have secure footing when descending. As we approach the Teen Pokhari, the descent will be gentler, and we will find the first mountain pasture along the route where maybe, with our luck, we may spot snow leopard and thar.
We will gain a little elevation today of about 300 m. We will cross numerous ridges, rocky terrain, and alpine vegetation along the route. Panch Pokhari is a name given to a group of five sacred lakes that are considered abode to Lord Shiva. The lakes are situated on the lap of Jugal Himal. From here on, the alone vegetation is replaced by deep forest.
We will establish a camp along the bank of the lakes and enjoy the sites of Jugal Himal, Gosaikunda, and Rolwaling Mountain.
After breakfast, we will leave Panch Pokhari and head to Nasem Pati. The hike will be mostly downhill with crossing some rocky terrain. The initial path will be, however, easy along a well-defined trail. After about 5 hours, we will reach Nasem Pati, where we will set up our camp for an overnight stay.
It is time to walk through dense subtropical forests past the Sherpa and Tamang villages to arrive at Hille Bhanjyang. The initial path will make us climb for a while, and the final approach towards the Bhanjyang will be through the steep downhill path. Being a relatively new trekking region, no lodges are here, so we will establish the camp for our overnight stay.
After breakfast, we will leave Bhanjyang and move toward our overnight destination of Pauwabass. First, we will climb through the rhododendron forest for a while; then, we will descend steeply through the forest to reach Pauwabass, where we will set the camp to rest for the night. From here, you can enjoy the magical views of Jugal and Gaurishankar Himal up close
From here on, we will walk on a flat trail leading through dense rhododendrons, pine, oak, and juniper forests. So, the hike will be pretty easy. Upon reaching Kami Kharka, we will have a magnificent panorama of Jugal Himal, Langtang Lirung, and Dorje Lakpa.
Today, we will lose around 400 m altitude, so hiking is always downhill through the dense forest where we may spot some langurs and Danfe (the national bird of Nepal). Last day to spend the night at camp.
Considerable altitude loss today as we make our way back to civilization and the comfort of the city. Descending through the deep forest, we will arrive at Chautara in about 4 to 5 hours. We will stop here for lunch, then drive to Kathmandu in a private jeep. We will drive you to your hotel, rest, take a much-awaited hot shower, and stroll around in the evening.
Free day for touring the valley. You can visit Patan and Bhaktapur today and shop for handicrafts, pottery, or any souvenir you wish to take back as a representative of warm Nepal.
In the evening, our guide will take you to a typical Nepali restaurant with a cultural program to enjoy the farewell dinner.
Final day in Kathmandu! We will drive you to the airport three hours before your departure time. We hope we have helped you to accomplish your dream.

The best time to participate in Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek is from late September to November, during the charming autumn months. During this period, the winter snow along the path to the Pass melts, and the sacred Teen Pokhari and Panch Pokhari will be unfrozen, offering breathtaking views of the mountains.
The second most favorable time is in spring, from March to May. However is the best for Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek, as winter gradually recedes, it is possible to encounter snow and ice along the trail; the weather may be cloudy, and the lakes may remain frozen.
Our Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek will take us to the maximum elevation of 5320m above sea level. If we choose to climb the high peak of Tesrgo Ri at 5033 m when acclimatizing at Kyanjin Gumpa, this would be the second highest point of our entire trek.
The Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek entire from Langtang Valley spans 80 km, whereas our latter destination, Panch Pokhari in Helambu, lies 70 km away from Kathmandu.
We must allocate 20 days to complete this trek on foot. Each day, we will cover a substantial distance of 13 to 15 km, walking for approximately 5 to 7 hours.
During our 20-day journey to Tilman Pass, we have allocated 15 days for hiking. We will walk 5 to 7 hours daily throughout our hiking journey. However, on day 7, we spend an acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gumpa. If we choose to ascend Kyanjin Ri, we will hike only for 3 to 4 hours, which is the minimum walk undertaken during our entire trek.
Conversely, on day 10, as we move on to cross the Tilman Pass and descend to Yak Kharka, we have to exert ourselves to walk for 8 hours. This leg of our trek is the maximum walking duration of our whole trek.
The Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek is a demanding high-altitude nature trek aimed at those who are in good physical shape and have significant sporting activity, particularly endurance. While physical health is a must, excellent mental skills are also needed, which can enable the participants to cope with difficulties that are unforeseen in nature.
It is a 20-day hike with stages averaging 6 to 8 hours of walking per day and up to 1,400 m of elevation gain. We need to cross one High Pass over 5,000 m. therefore, you must be familiar with mountaineering techniques, crampons, ice axes, harnesses, and fixed ropes. Weather conditions and isolation can make this expedition more difficult.
We have planned this trek with a deliberate acclimatization day at Kathmandu and Kyanjin Gumpa. Before approaching the Pass, we will gradually gain altitude at a slow pace, with 3 to 5 hours of walking duration, so our bodies can adjust to the thin air of a highly elevated zone.
In our Langtang Valley with Tilman Pass Trek, the use of mountaineering equipment (crampons, harnesses, ice axes, ropes, etc.) is necessary, but the route covered does not involve any technical difficulty. So, it is the appropriate trip for beginner mountaineers who have practiced a little or have completed a few courses.
We recommend starting an extensive training program early on to prepare for the Langtang Valley With Tilman Pass Trek. Systematic training should begin at least 6 months before the start of the undertaking in order to prepare the body for the expected stress. The best sports are jogging, hiking, cycling, and, of course, mountaineering.
In addition, strength endurance training with sit-ups, push-ups, squats, or going to the gym doesn’t hurt.
We can first explore the Panch Pokhari and Teen Pokhari as an alternate route to Tilman Pass. Then, we can cross the Tilman Pass and continue our trek to Langtang Valley in the latter part of our trip. For this, we have to drive to Chautara from Kathmandu and trek through the scenic landscape of Sano Okhareni, Kami Kharka, Pauwa Bas, Hille Bhanjyang, Panch Pokhari, and Teen Pokhari.
After successfully crossing the Tilman Pass, we can then descend to Kyanin Gumpa and Syabrubesi.
On our 20-day trip to Tilman Pass, you will mostly spend nights at an altitude of more than 3000 m. Therefore, the risk of altitude sickness is probable. However, it does not threaten tourists who regularly exercise, sleep 8 hours daily, and properly acclimate on site. For normal well-being, it is necessary to gain altitude gradually (no more than 500-700 meters per day), not overheat or become hypothermic on the route, and drink plenty of fluids.
In terms of transportation, we provide transfers from and to the airport by private minibus or car. At the beginning and end of the trip, you will have a comfortable private ride in a jeep, car, or bus (based on group size).
Regarding meals, breakfast is included in Kathmandu. At lunch and dinner, you will have the opportunity to discover typical local cuisine. Breakfastfast, lunch, and diareer are included and served in the during trek lodge. The basic ingredients are rice, pasta, lentils, potatoes, vegetables, eggs, bread, dumplings, etc.
During tent accommodation, our kitchen team will prepare the meal. You can have unlimited food, tea or coffee with cookies, fresh fruits after dinner, and hot water.
Apart from these included menus, other drinks and foodstuffs will be at your expense.
During the initial phase of our trip, you will have the convenience of communicating through NTC or NCELL mobile networks. When staying overnight at local lodges, you can also charge your devices and access WIFI at an extra cost excluded from our service.
However, in the lower part of our journey, we approach the Tilman Pass and traverse through the authentic virgin villages where we may not have the luxury of these services. So we suggest carrying power banks and using a mobile data package for internet access.
For the most part of the trek, we will be hiking through the restricted area of Langtang National Park. Therefore, we have to obtain a Langtang National Park permit for our Langtang Valley with the Tilman Pass trek. Additionally, we also need a TIMS card as the trek is considered one of the most challenging high-altitude treks in Nepal.
(Note: first aid kits & medicine will carrying with our company’s guide during the trekking However, we recommend you to bring your personal first-aid kit)
Generally, 15 to 20 days are needed to complete this trek, but we can customize the itinerary according to your needs.
You can climb Yuwa Peak, elevated at 5556 m above sea level. This peak doesn’t need a climbing permit.
Panch Pokhari is considered a group of Holy Lakes known to be associated with Lord Shiva. Upon arriving at Panch Pokhari, you can observe Langtang Lirung, Naya Khanga, Yala Peak, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, Langshisha, Ganesh Himal, and many more peaks. You may also see Thar, langurs, red pandas, wild boars, bears, danfes, and many more rare wildlife.
The cost of Tilman Pass Trek is very affordable at USD 1699 per person. With the increase in group size, the cost can also be reduced.
