Participants get to Khare on the training and acclimatisation day and get to learn the fundamentals of mountain climbing and mountaineering. The seasoned professionals teach the climbing skills that involve the use of crampons, the climbing of the ice axe, and the use of the high rope systems to build the confidence necessary to make the final summit attempt. The formation of these skills guarantees that every climber, regardless of the extent of their previous experience, will be able to make an attempt on Mera Peak safely and effectively.
The summit day is the most intense and most satisfying. The climbers leave at around 2 a.m. on the first day to begin the traverse of a large area of the glacier. During this section, setups are fine-tuned for icy, climbing environments. The first sections of the climb have been flexed at the peak as a climbing environment for their first sections. As the sun rises, the large, surrounding giants of the Himalayan landforms begin to glow with a mountain of golden pack. The summit of Mera Peak is the most emotional and also the most satisfying as the climber will be rewarded with a glow of the packed golden on a mountain of the Himalayas.
The climb is completed in the same way that it was started. You retrace the steps of the Khumbu and back to Lukla and Kathmandu. You are provided with the climbing hospitality of local tea houses and guest lodges. You are also provided with high and safe camping during the peak ascent.

Note: Travel plans are subject to change based on airline and passenger demand, which is out of our control.
For trekkers looking to save time and for a more comfortable and luxurious option, we can offer direct helicopter transport from Kathmandu to Lukla. This is the more ideal option as you do not have the early morning drive to Ramachhap, and you can start your trek well rested.
This helicopter option is ideal if you have a busy travel schedule, are looking for a more time efficient way to travel, or want a more smooth start to the Mera Peak Climbing 13 Days adventure. This helicopter option ranges from 500-600 US dollars for a private group of 5 people.
The most effective approach to eliminate the hours of driving to Manthali and the restless nights due to early mornings is to take the direct helicopter flight to Lukla.
This alternative avoids all road transiting, saves a hefty amount of time, and guarantees a restful start to the trekking journey during the months of March to May and October to November. When it comes to the comfort and ease of the traveler, the helicopter transfer is the most appropriate answer.
Crossing the Zatra La Pass today provides another early highlight of the trek. The trail steadily climbs towards the pass and is surrounded by some stunning views of rough hill formations and far off snow capped peaks. At 4,600 m.
There is a thrilling sense of achievement as you arrive at Zatra La, as you have now entered the remote Hinku Valley. After taking in the views, you will begin a steep descent towards Thuli Kharka, which is located at the bottom of the pass. Here, you will be surrounded by gentle hills that are filled with yak pastures. Today is a very demanding da,y and will help set the tone for the days to come as your body needs to adjust to the greater altitudes (higher elevation).
When leaving Thuli Kharka, the path gently inclines down through the gorgeous and peaceful rhododendron, pine, and juniper woods.
Once in the Hinku Valley, the fascinating scenery begins to really kick in, with enormous cliffs and streams. Eventually, the woods give way to the river and Kothe, a small hamlet with a few tea huts. The first sighting of Mera Peak, a significant mountain in the area, serves as a motivational highlight. The evening will be spent resting and enjoying the peaceful serenity of the mountains, sitting against the backdrop of Mera Peak.
Today’s route begins a little differently, as it gently trails along the western bank of the Hinku River. This means more exceptional and exclusive glacial and ridgeline views, and more. The view of the landscape quickly becomes more and more alpine, and it’s through some yuletide cabins, a magnificent spread of grazing yaks, and a few glacial moraines before arriving at Thagnak.
Thagnak is a mountain village which is situated in a broad valley and is has magnificent rock structures and glacial lakes. This reduced hike can be used to hydrate, rest and get ready to heavier altitude variations in the days ahead.
From Thagnak begins ascending towards Dig Glacier, steadily climbing through rough terrain and glacial ridges. The trail displays wonderful views of Mera’s northern face with several great ice fields. When approaching Khare, the last settlement before the climb, the expanse is rugged with naked slopes and frosty streams. Khare is the main point of staging for the expeditions towards Mera Peak and is a great point to rest, acclimatize, and prep for the climb. The views of the grand slopes of Mera Peak are inspiring and humbling at the same time.
This day is critical to your safety and success on the mountain. After breakfast, join your climbing guide for a practical training session, understanding the usage of crampons, ice axes, harnesses, and ropes. You will practice walking on snow and ice, ascending and descending on fixed lines, and improving at proper mountaineering technique.
The rest of the day is to acclimatise, hydrate, and rest. This preparation will help ensure you are confident and ready for the next challenges of glacier travel and climbing at high altitude.
You depart from Khare and head towards Mera La at 5,415 meters while ascending with views of the surrounding Himalayan giants.
After crossing the Mera Glacier, the trail ascends towards the pass, where you will go along a gentle slope to High Camp at 5,800 meters. High Camp is placed upon a rocky ridge, which comes with views of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Kanchanjunga. And when the sun descends, the peaks glow with the sunlight. Tonight will be spent in a tent under the stars.
The start of the day is quite early and requires preparation at the camp by the headlamp and a sleepless night. After forming a rope team, a long and steady ascent is made by the glacier and its gentle, constant slope. After a while, the first sunlight will illuminate the massif, and the view is truly beautiful.
If you are lucky, you won’t need to climb the last part of the route, which is a short rise on a fixed rope. Mera Peak, with a height of 6476 m, is a worthy summit and truly unforgettable. After reaching the top and taking the necessary 360-degree summit view with mountain giants such as Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga, and countless others, you will solemnly descend to the camp, as is the tradition of each summit. After a short rest at the High Camp, you descend to Khare to rest.
This trek is the last trek of the expedition. After the mountain summit success, the trek will be done on a familiar route back to Kothe. With a relaxed mind, the descend and retracing of steps will make travelling to Kothe feel easier. This will be a very enjoyable day, and on arrival at Kothe, everyone will feel a warm and rich meal and will have time to think about the great expedition that was completed.
This morning, begin your gradual ascent back toward Thuli Kharka. The path you have taken offers a magnificent view of the valley and frosted mountains. You will see a different view of Mera Peak, which is a treasured sight. You will move at a steady pace across the grazing meadows and the open hills and have a refreshing walk to your destination. You will have a calm and relaxing evening at Thuli Kharka this evening in preparation for the final and most challenging section of the trek.
The walk between Thuli Kharka and Lukla is a satisfying last day of the trip, passing over the difficult but spectacular Zatra La Pass (4,620m). The path ascends upwards to the summit of the pass, providing a panoramic view of the adjacent Himalayan ranges.
Once the final high-altitude view is had, the trail leads down rocky terrain and forested areas, then slowly descending to the known Sherpa villages around Lukla. On the summit, trekkers kill the beast by enjoying a warm meal and a rest after their successful Mera Peak climbing mission.
This morning, you are going to board a nice flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, your guide will take you to a hotel where you will have a chance to rest, take a hot shower, and enjoy some personal sightseeing of this interesting town. This day gives you time to buy some last-minute souvenirs, enjoy the culture, and relax after your Mera Peak climbing adventure. This is the end of the memories of the Mera Peak climbing expedition.
We also operate private trips.
Yes, of course, our team does not usually advise Mera Peak to absolute beginners, we honestly recommend 18 Days Mera Peak Climbing instead of 13 days one, but we have already had a few beginners who made it to the top. Due to the gradual day by day movement to Mera Peak, the process of acclimatization is rather efficient, and that is why motivated and fit beginners may still take the climb.
Nevertheless, one should speak out regarding the difficulties
The initial few days are characterized by great improvement in elevation from 3,100 meters on the first day to 4,230 meters on the second day via the Zatra La Pass of 4,620 meters, which may be very challenging to individuals who have never experienced high altitude trekking.
Although Mera Peak is among the highest trekking peaks in Nepal with a height of 6, 476 meters, it is not technically a challenging peak. This renders it user-friendly among healthy and active climbers who have minimal experience. We also have a day of complete acclimatization and training in Khare, where our certified climbing instructors would be teaching necessary training on how to use crampons, ropes, harness, and ice axe.
Even first time climbers are given a realistic opportunity to successfully and safely reach the summit of Mera Peak with the right preparation, good physical fitness and proper guidance, though they must be made aware of the altitude issues at the very onset.
The Mera Peak Climbing time is best for spring time (March to May) and autumn (September to November). This is the time when the weather is stable with clear views of the mountains and the temperature is comfortable during the day time.
In spring, the forests of rhododendron are in bloom and the weather for climbing is warmer, while in autumn the air is crisp and the visibility is exceptionally good due to the recently passed monsoon. Risks of unpredictable weather are much lower during these two periods, which is why they are the best for high altitude climbing. Monsoon and winter are avoided because there is heavy snowfall, very cold temperatures, and visibility is poor.
Altitude Sickness is a factor to consider while Mera Peak Climbing, as the climb goes well above the 6,000 meters mark. Symptoms may include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue, and there is shortness of breath.
Our Itinerary is carefully crafted to allow for enough time to acclimatize with the altitude, and we gain altitude gradually, as well as taking a day to acclimatize in Khare, although we encourage walkers to trek slowly and hydrate, and eat properly, and let your guide know how they feel. Guides are also trained in how altitude affects the symptoms. If more symptoms show, we will lower the altitude, which is the best and most effective way to relieve the symptoms.
The Mera Peak Trek entails staying at warm tea houses in villages and at High Camp in a tented camp. Tea houses offer basic amenities including warm blankets and dining areas with simple twin-sharing rooms. The facilities at higher altitudes become more basic due to fewer resources, but they offer a warm welcoming environment to trekkers. High camp offers tented accommodation in sturdy mountaineering tents. Although there are basic amenities, they offer a raw expedition style experience with breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
The tea houses provide trekkers with and rich meals for the high altitude trekking. Some common meals are dal bhat (rice, lentils, and veggies ), noodles, pasta, soups, potatoes, eggs, bread and other rice meals. There are also a variety of hot teas and coffees that help warm your body, light and hydrate you. Water is offered in boiled or purified form but bottled water is available for cash (at additional cost). Good hydration is essential for acclimatization and overall well being during the trek.
The flight to and from the Mera Peak Climbing 13 Days trailhead is one of the highlights of the trip as it offers amazing views of the Mera Peak and the surrounding topography. The flight is to and from Lukla. We will pick you up from your hotel (in Kathmandu) and take you to the airport and after the flight, we will take care of the transfer to your hotel. Accommodation for the trek is provided and as is customary in the region. We will be using porters to carry the bags.
Therefore, in your day to day trekking bouts, you will only need to carry your daypack with your personal belongings and necessities for the day, snacks, water, etc.
Overall, the most important part of preparing for this trip is to be fit. It’s an achievable summit for most, as long as trekkers have the ability to push themselves on the trail for long stretches of time. Guided training walks and hikes will be part of the preparation building up to the peak, but in the meantime, regular cardio at the gym and endurance building activities (like cycling) will be helpful, as will hill walking and stair climbing.
There is a strong mental component to this trek as well, and one is to encourage themselves to stay positive, be determined, and focus on the summit when the conditions are tough.
Cost incurred by the Mera Peak Climbing 13 days package includes your domestic flights, trekking and climbing permits, meals, accommodation costs in tea houses, camping equipment for High Camp, guiding and porter services, and government taxes. These additions assist in the proper organization and professionalism of the adventure.
The other cost variables can vary depending on the group size, season and quality of services offered. In general, the presented packaged trip is highly valued because it contains trekking in the Himalayas, the climb of a peak, a logistics management mechanism, and professional guide services.
While the package does cover a lot of things, trekkers should cover things like snacks and drinks, bottled water, hot shower costs, charging fees, Wi-Fi, and equipment rentals. Mandatory travel insurance already bought prior to your arrival has to cover high-altitude activities. Tips given to guides, shopping done personally, and unaccommodated costs due to flight delays are all extra costs to keep in mind. Having a small set amount of money saved in advance to cover these things will help create a more smooth and stress free experience.
You will have to deal with trekking, climbing, and high altitude obstacles, and there will be obstacles to overcome on the trekking as Mera Peak, the highest trekking peak in the world, is not a walk in the park. You will walk along diverse and beautiful landscapes from completely green to beautiful glacier terrain that will take your breath away. The greatest challenges will be crossing the Zatra La Pass, walking around the Hinku Valley, and climbing the Mera Glacier.
The gratifying and memorable peak of the hike will be the eternal view of the five 8000 meters peaks that most people miss on their hikes in the Himalayas. Other things to expect on your high altitude hike are sherpa hospitality, beautiful landscapes, and the hike of a lifetime, where you will be absolutely exhausted, but it will be worth it.
The Mera Peak Climbing 13 Days Permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association, the Park Entry Permit for Makalu Barun National Park, which creates a stream of work for the local people and helps with the preservation of the environment in the area. Your trekking company will take care of all of the permits and the efforts needed, so you can spend your time focusing on the hike and the experience.
You can approach Mera Peak in different ways depending on your preference and acclimatization needs. The Zatra La Route is the shortest of the routes, but it also crosses an early high pass, which is challenging. The Hinku Valley route is also quite popular among trekkers, as it is not too difficult and is perfect for acclimatization as the ascent is quite gentle. The route of Bung Chheskang and other routes from the Pangom side is more forested, which many trekkers really enjoy.
The Mera Peak + Amphu Laptsa Pass + Island Peak route is for very advanced trekkers looking for multiple peaks and technical passes, as it offers quite the dramatic adventure.
All the climbing equipment is available in Khare village before moving to Mera peak high camp, but the equipment owner will charge from 120-140 USD if you need it for rent.
