Trip Overview

Mera Peak Climbing 7 Days – Best Short Himalayan Expedition

Mera Peak Climbing 7 Days is the best adventure for trekkers wanting a quick, efficient, and gratifying trek in the midst of the Himalayas while also summiting the highest trekking peak in the Himalayas. At 6,476 meters, Mera Peak has some of the highest and most breathtaking views in the world. You’ll have a sight of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and even Kanchenjunga on most clear days. This short time frame is particularly aimed towards climbers who wish to take on a major peak in the Himalayas while meeting all the above stated criteria.

This short Mera Peak Climbing and trekking package starts with a wonderful flight on a small aircraft from Kathmandu to Lukla, the entry point in the Everest region. To help make good use of your trekking days, we arrange a helicopter transfer to Kothe. This helicopter transfer gets you deep into the middle of the Hinku Valley. This approach is why we can make the Mera Peak climbing 7 days itinerary so comfortable and effortful at the same time.

From Kothe, the trek goes along a path with views of the forest and the Hinku River until reaching Thangnak. The path slowly reveals views of the immense mountains, the ice landscapes, and the rough high-altitude landscapes. During the trek from Thangnak to Khare, you enter the real climbing zone and are welcomed by the immense Mera Glacier, which is the biggest climbing zone in the landscape.

Khare is the main resting point and the base for altitude acclimatization and climbing preparation. In Khare, climbers are trained with important climbing skills and equipment like crampons, climbing and harnesses, and ice axes. Thus, making this trek possible to do for people who don’t have a lot of climbing experience.

One of the major positives of this climbing itinerary of Mera Peak Climbing is the trek to the high altitude Mera High Camp. The High Camp is located at an altitude of about 5800 meters and is the location for the most beautiful sunsets in the region. From this point, climbers are able to see and identify the silhouettes of Everest and Makalu that are lit up in a golden color when the sun sets.

The most thrilling, awe-inspiring activities of the expedition occurs on summit day. With a pre-dawn breakfast, you gain altitude on the snow slopes, arriving at the summit ridge just in time for sunrise. The vista at the top of Mera Peak, at 6476 meters, is an immeasurable joy with the fairytale 360 degrees view of the top of the world. The most Instagrammable achievement during the 7 days Mera Peak climbing and trek gets etched into memory.

After your victorious summit, you go back to Khare to have a restful night. The final day is a trek to Kothe, where you take a helicopter to Lukla, and take a plane to Kathmandu. All in one day, this completes the 7 days trek and makes this one of the most time efficient, mesmerizing short climbing itineraries in Mera Peak.

The Mera Peak climbing 7 days package offers glacier climbing, high-altitude trekking, traversing with helicopter, and the idyllic landscape of the Himalayas all in one journey. It is best suited for people with a lust for adventure and little time on their hands with the Hill Sherpa Trekking team in Nepal, which is never regretted in the future.

The ascent of the Hinku River today is by the easiest and smoothest part of the journey a quiet, almost mystic walk by the side of running water. It slowly rises in elevation and the landscape turns out to be rocky with steep ridges characterizing the Mera region. You will also make a visit to the 400 year old monastery on the way, which is an impressive location that has been used as a spiritual centre by the local Sherpa people over the centuries.

The monastery also houses old Buddhist relics and murals, which are an indication of the rich cultural and religious background of the area. The route then proceeds over yak pastures to Thangnak a significant acclimatization center for trekkers on their way to Mera Peak. Your views of Mera Peak will also be the first uninterrupted ones as it rises behind the ridges that are found all around. The hike will be done at a slow speed and will take approximately 4-5 hours with ample time to take breaks, rehydrate and absorb the landscape in the middle of the Hinku Valley.

Having prepared your trekking gear, we will start our climb from Khare toward the Mera high camp via base camp and glacier. We will be ascending over snow-covered terrain. Therefore, We will be moving slowly as the altitude will require us to be slow and careful.

This ascent is steady and is not very technical. Once we get closer to Mera High Camp, the view around us will become panoramic because we will be able to see Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other Himalayan peaks.

High Camp is located on a rocky ridge and will provide us with a great view to see the sunset and experience a magical night on the mountain. Once you get settled in your tents, we will check to make sure that we have all the right gear and prepare to start early in the morning to reach the summit.

These periods guarantee appropriate trekking and climbing conditions and stable weather patterns with clear skies and good visibility. Spring provides blooming flowers along the trails and the glacier’s snow cover.

Autumn also offers dry trails and some of the best views of the Himalayas for the year with cool temperatures. However, access to the mountain in winter is significantly more challenging due to extreme cold, heavy snowfall and the beautiful scenery that winter offers. Otherwise, it is technically among the easiest climbing peaks, to the point that in other nations, it’d barely exist on the rating scale. Advanced climbing skills are unnecessary, and vertical as a route is unrequired. The day is long, often taking between 8 and 9 hours, and in high altitudes on the route, so good pacing, endurance, and mental resilience are essential on the long summit day.

It is not technically difficult, but altitude is a crisis, and so is the weather, so energy management is necessary to fewer risks and problems with the other aspects are found throughout the day.

Yes, this itinerary incorporates use of helicopters, effectively minimizing time spent on the trek and allowing for increased comfort during the expedition. On the first day, a helicopter is utilized to fly participants directly from Lukla to Kothe which saves two walking day transits across the Hinku Valley.

On the day of the summit, after descending to Khare, trekkers proceed to Kothe on foot to take a helicopter back to Lukla for a quick return trip to Kathmandu. The combination of walking and helicopter travel allows for a very time efficient and effective 7 day Mera Peak climbing.

Preparation & Fitness Preparation & Fitness

No, you do not require climbing experience for Mera Peak, and the climb is relatively to newbies, with the only requirement being that you must have good fitness. The itinerary includes guided training on the discipline of using crampons, ice axes, and ropes, so first-time climbers can safely traverse the glacier and get to the peak.

Mera Peak is classified as having a moderate level of difficulty. While technical rock climbing is not a requirement, other factors such as the cold weather, high elevation, and long summit days create a challenge. Things like cardiovascular fitness, stamina, and mental fortitude are important in completing the ascent, and those who train in advance, prepare and do the climb will find it challenging, but within reach.

For a successful hike, climbers should possess enough cardiovascular fitness to walk upwards of six hours a day at altitude. We encourage climbers to train for at least a month before the hike, with emphasis on hiking, running, stair climbing, and exercises for the legs and core. The summit, as with any hike, demands a good deal of endurance and focus as the day is long and arduous.

Permits Permits

Two major permits are required for Mera Peak. The Mera Peak Climbing Permit is the first, and it is acquired from the Nepalese Mountaineering Association (NMA).

The second is the Makalu Barun National Park Entry Permit, which is required for the Hinku Valley and the other protected areas in the park. Most trekking companies obtain the permits for their climbers, so obtaining them independently is not required.

Insurance and Visa Insurance and Visa

Yes, travel insurance is required. Mera Peak weather can change very suddenly, and always requires travel insurance for the climbing trip. Any travel insurance must include emergency evacuation for above 6,000 meters, and cover accidents, medical emergencies, and helicopter evacuation, which is always a must for high-altitude climbing trips.

Accommodation and Facilities Accommodation and Facilities

During the trek, sleeping accommodations are in local teahouses, which offer basic rooms, shared bathrooms, and warm bedding, as well as cozy dining rooms. These lodges offer a great atmosphere to rest and adjust to the altitude.

At Mera High Camp, climbers sleep in tents set up by the guiding organization. Although basic, the tents have great views and offer a genuine experience of high-altitude climbing. Most teahouses also offer hot showers and Wi-Fi for a small extra fee.

Food and Drinks Food and Drinks

The trek also provides an assortment of energy giving and nutritious meals that enable the climbers to remain energetic. The common breakfast is porridge, eggs, pancakes, and tea/coffee.

We normally eat dal bhat, noodles, pasta, soup, curry, fried rice, and momos as lunch and dinner meals. At high altitude, people should remain hydrated and hence we suggest that people should intake 3 to 4 liters of water per day. There is also the availability of hot drinks and we have some pastries.

At every lodge, food is prepared fresh and served with variety of choices to meet the requirements of the diet of climbers.

Weather & Seasons Weather & Seasons

Mera Peak Climbing has a peak season, spring (March-May) and fall (September-November). Such seasons assure good weather and climbing conditions including clear skies and excellent views of the surrounding Himalayas. The time of spring is usually kind and has an added advantage of blooming mountainous rhododendrons.

Fall on the other hand is dry and crisp with unique dryer air, breathtaking scenery and brisk air. Monsoon (high rainfall) and winter (absolute cold and high risk) are the seasons that should be avoided.

Health & Safety Health & Safety

The weather in the high Himalayas is unpredictable. We will do our best to operate flights, helicopter transfers, and attempts at the summit, but Mera Peak climbing is in the high Himalayas, and we prioritize our safety by always being able to adjust to the itinerary, including the adding of rest days or just waiting days. Climbers must be adaptable and must realize that success on the summit will depend greatly on the luck of the weather.

There are concerns about altitude sickness once you reach elevations over 5000m. This can present as a headache, nausea, dizziness, or fatigue. Even with the full acclimatization day at Khare and increasing the altitude slowly, the risk is still there.

The guides monitor the group with oximeters to ensure climbers are managing their altitude and can help with any medical problems. If you need to, it is easy to get down quickly with a remote descent or helicopter evacuation. Drinking water, moving and pacing slowly, and listening to your body are the most important things to avoid altitude sickness.

Packing & Gear Packing & Gear

you should bring personal trekking and climbing equipment such as the following, warm trekking clothing, trekking boots, gloves, down jacket, and headlamp. The guiding company typically provides camping equipment, while some personal equipment can be rented out at Kathmandu.

When trekking at high altitude, there are considerable safety and comfort tradeoffs that come with adequate gear.
