The Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is 9 days Npeal Himalayas adventure designed for trekkers who want to experience the highlights of the classic Annapurna Circuit in less time. The route takes you through the scenic Marsyangdi Valley to Manang, across the spectacular Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters), and down to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath.
Though this trek is shorter than the traditional Annapurna Circuit, you still get to see a lot of the route’s most spectacular highlights. Trek along mountain valleys and pathways traversing the pine forests and traditional Gurung and Tibetan villages, and keep your eyes peeled for some of Nepal’s most majestic peaks.
Once you are picked up from Kathmandu, you will begin your trek with a drive to Chame, the northern entrance to the Annapurna Region. From Chame, you will trek along the Marsyangdi Valley to Dikur Pokhari, Upper Pisang, Nawal, and Manang. With every step you take, Manang Valley’s spectacular high altitude environment will become more apparent.
One of the shortest routes to the Annapurna Massif, an important aspect of the trek is the rest day in Manang, also known as an acclimatization day. Manang is perfectly situated at 3,500 meters and the lack of vegetation at high elevations provides a necessary resting day for your body to adjust to even higher elevations. After the rest day, you will move to even higher elevations of Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi.
Day 8 is the big day. You get an early start to climb to Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters). It will certainly test you, but the destination will reward you. The views from the top are stunning. From there, you will make your way down the steep path to Muktinath.
This is where the adventure really starts. After crossing Thorong La Pass, you will find yourself in the dry, desert like landscapes of Mustang. This brings a great cultural juxtaposition to your journey as you visit Muktinath, one of the most historic pilgrimage locations in Nepal.
Your journey ends with a beautiful drive to Pokhara and gives you the ability to complete the Annapurna trek in 9 days. Designed for 2026 and 2027 by Hill Sherpa Trekking Team.
Your Short Annapurna Circuit Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu toward Chame, the administrative center of Manang District. The journey takes you away from the busy Kathmandu v alley and into the beautiful hills and mountains of central Nepal.
As the road follows the Marsyangdi River, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, you will pass through traditional villages, terraced farmland, waterfalls, suspension bridges, and steep mountain valleys.
After 8 to 9 hours of driving, you reach Chame village at 2,760 meters, which is surrounded by impressive Himalayan scenery and is the starting point for the trekking section of your journey and you stay overnight.
After breakfast, you start heading to Pisang. The trail follows the Marsyangdi River, and it takes you close to pine woods and offers amazing views of the mountains.
The way to Pisang takes you through steep, narrow valleys, with cliffs on both sides. You will cross many small bridges and walk underneath interesting rock formations.
The approach toward Pisang is through drier, rugged terrain. Pisang Peak and Annapurna II offer amazing backgrounds to the nearer village.
You reach Pisang after about 5 to 6 hours of hiking, where you will spend the night.
Today you trek to a higher elevation in the Annapurna region. Based on the conditions of the trail, you will trek the Upper Pisang route before continuing to Nawal.
The scenery of the Upper Pisang region provides a stark contrast to the lower elevation sections of the trek. The influence of Tibetan Buddhist culture begins to dominate, the valleys begin to dry, and the forests start to disappear.
The stone villages, prayer flags, mani walls, stupas, and structures built to survive the extreme conditions begin to appear.
You will have plenty of time to take in the scenery as the day usually requires less than three hours of walking and will take you to the altitude of Nawal at 3,660 meters.
After breakfast, you head to Manang, a popular destination on the Circuit. You are bound to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Annapurna Mountain Range as you pass through the spectacular terrain. You will also pass by some beautiful settlements and some important Buddhist cultural sites.
Manang is reached in about 5 to 6 hours. Manang is a picturesque Himalayan village at 3500m and has some of the most spectacular views of the mountain ranges on the Annapurna Circuit.
Today is the acclimatization day at Manang and we have the opportunity to hike to Ice Lake at 4,600 meters. It will give us stunning views of peaks like Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak.
The hike is definitely strenuous and a struggle, but it is worth the physical preparation for what is to come. Once you return, you have complete freedom to relax, explore the village, visit one of the main monasteries in Manang, or just enjoy the stunning vista.
This acclimatization day is mandatory before we plan to go above 4,600 meters and cross the Thorong La Pass, which reaches 5,416 meters, at the end of the trek.
As you leave Manang, you trek upwards into the thinning air of the Yak Kharka region.
The trail ascends through a fairly dry but absolutely stunning landscape. You will see incredible peaks off in the distance as you gain elevation.
This is the first section of the trail that will show you why this whole region is famous for its challenging high altitude. Be sure to maintain a slow, consistent pace and take Frequent Hydration breaks.
You will make your way to your camp at Yak Kharka, nestled at 4,200 meters, after 4 to 5 hours.
Today you walk to Thorong Phedi, the last established area before the crossing of Thorong La Pass.
The trail starts off climbing and passes through valleys with approaches to steep sides, rocky segments, and views of the mountains surrounding you.
The walking segment is short, but altitude adds to the challenge. Reaching 4600 meters at Thorong Phedi is a notable point along your journey.
You have time upon arriving to rest and prepare your gear. You get to unwind for the night, as Tomorrow will be the longest day of the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek.
This is the most difficult and satisfying day of the journey.
The early start is necessary because we have to reach the Pass before the weather starts changing rapidly.
The climb to the Pass is long and strenuous because of the altitude, but the climb is worth it for the scenery. The climb brings you through beautiful scenery of the Himalayas across rugged terrain.
Up on the Pass, you’ve reached the final goal of the long journey. Take some time to rest and appreciate the view and take some pictures. Then it’s time to descend.
From here, the trail descends to Muktinath, which is a very important pilgrimage to both Hindus and Buddhists alike.
The scenery changes rapidly on the descent. The green hills of Manang start to transform into dry, barren hills of Mustang. This is one of the most interesting contrasts you will see on the Annapurna Circuit.
Finally, after 7 to 8 hours of trekking, you arrive at Muktinath to rest.
After breakfast, the short version of the Annapurna Circuit Trek ends with a drive from Muktinath to Pokhara.
Passing through dramatic sections of the Kali Gandaki Valley, this drive passes through various landscapes (mountain villages, dry land, gorges, and changing vegetation) along the way.
The beginning of the journey to Pokhara is marked by the landscape becoming greener and the start of a warmer temperature and includes a drive of about 7 or 8 hours to reach beautiful Pokhara, Nepal.
On this 9 days Annapurna trek, you’ve been able to experience firsthand the beauty of the Himalayan mountain ranges, villages, the trek over Thorong La Pass, and a variety of mountain scenery.
We also operate private trips.
If you are looking to experience all the highlights of the Annapurna Circuit but have a time constraint, this trek is for you. This 9 days trek takes you through the best and most rewarding sections of the Annapurna Circuit. The highlight of this trek is definitely the crossing of the Thorong La Pass, but you will experience so much more on this trek. From active subtropical valleys to desert alpine landscapes, you will see it all on this trek before you cross the sweeping Thorong La Pass.
Travel will require a stop in Manang for acclimatization. This is essential for the trip, since the trail moves to above 4,000 meters after this point. This itinerary is great for travelers, since it shortens the travel time while still maintaining some level of comfort.
This route is perfect for any traveler wishing to complete the 9 days Thorong La Pass trek, as this short and direct route provides access to one of the highest and most well known trekking passes in Nepal.

Generally speaking, spring and autumn are the best seasons for the 9 Days Short Annapurna Circuit Trek.
Spring – March to May
Spring is a good time for trekking because the rhododendron blooms in the lower regions and the temperatures are comfortable at this time. While trekking in spring, keep in mind that the mountain views can be obscured due to unpredictable weather.
Autumn – September to November
Right after the monsoon season, the weather settles and the mountain views are clear and magnificent, making this season perfect for trekking. Once again, keep in mind the mountain views may be obscured due to frequent rain.
Winter – December to February
Winter months have snow and colder temperatures. This may mean trekking the high mountain passes will be dangerous due to snow and heavy winds.
Monsoon – June to August
The lower regions of the mountains may experience heavy rainfall and landslides. It is normally completely avoided, but many trekkers enter the Annapurna region during the monsoon season because the area is in the rain shadow.
On the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek, guests are expected to stay at comfortable local teahouses and lodges along the trekking route. Each trekker can expect to have a clean, simple room with twin beds and shared bathroom facilities.
Tea houses along the route provide meals at an additional cost. Meals available include staples such as Dal Bhat, noodles, pasta, potatoes, rice, bread, vegetables, and eggs, among others.
Dal Bhat is extremely popular among trekkers for its balance and fulfillment of one’s daily requirements of rice, lentils, and curry. It can easily be refilled at many teahouses along the way.

You will not require previous trekking experience. However, this trek is more difficult as it will take you up to 5,416 meters at Thorong La Pass.

Preparing for the Circuit is as important as the trip itself, and Trek to Thorong La Pass is no exception. While participants will not need to possess advanced mountaineering skills, they will need a good level of physical fitness in order to manage the high altitude and complete the day’s trek to Thorong La Pass at 5416m.
The best way to prepare for such a trek is to begin to walk regularly, practice some cardiovascular exercises, and begin to practice stair climbing at an increasingly fast pace a few weeks in advance of the trip. Walking steadily and staying hydrated throughout the walk will significantly decrease the challenge of the walk. There is more than enough opportunity to charge devices when you go for the Annapurna Circuit. Some teahouses and lodges offer charging, but it is limited. Always bring a power bank when you trek. Internet available during the trek is about as good as you can expect in the mountains.
Data services are available in many parts of the trek, but in some remote and high altitude areas, there are no services at all and the signal may be weak. You will find some possible Wi-Fi sources for an extra fee at the teahouses, but they are slow and sometimes not that reliable. The best thing to do is to get a local SIM card or eSIM and data package.
For the Short trek to Annapurna Circuit, in addition to the Trekking Package, you will need to budget for additional personal expenses and miscellaneous costs. Examples of such costs include, but are not limited to, Wi-Fi and mobile data, juice and bottled drinking water, charging your electronic devices, snacks, showers, laundry, shopping, and tips for your guide and porter.
If you want to upgrade your transportation to a private means, in the case that you want to take a private jeep to Pokhara from Muktinath instead of taking the local bus, you can do so for an extra cost. It is better to have some cash in Nepali currency, since there may be no credit cards or ATMs available in the mountain villages.
